need help making a comprehensive README

Postby tsakalli » Wed Dec 14, 2005 1:05 pm

for my repaints , I get alot of e-mail from people who have tried to use my moach 737 repaints but with no luck.

I am starting to wonder if my readme files are not helping much...here is an example:

[ description ]

 The folder   texture.BMI can be used as an addon texture for the  737 experience

---------------------
---To use it as an ADDON plane texture -->
---------------------

Copy the folder" texture.gol ", and rename it : texture.BMI
Next, copy and overwrite all of the bmp files in this zip file into the "texture.BMI" folder .
Next,you must add the following block of text in the aircraft.cfg -->

[fltsim.XX]
title=Boeing 737-700 BMI
sim=boeing737-700
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=BMI
checklists=
kb_checklists=Boeing737-700_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-700_ref
atc_id_enable=1
atc_id=N13720
atc_id_color=0xffffffff
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=569
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type=737-700 - The 737 Experience
ui_variation=BMI

TO GET IT TO WORK!!!:

[fltsim.0]   <--- there is a block of text as the one above for every 737 paintjobs that's in the aircraft.cfg each one of them, have progressive numbers for the diff airlines
like: [fltsim.1] ,[fltsim.2] and so on.  If you have not added any extra textures already
you need to change the number of the block of text I typed above to the next available number.
everything else that needs to be changed I have already set up so everything should work just fine.  make sure you save the changes made to the aircraft.cfg and you're ready to fly with your new plane

KNOWN ISSUES!!

the tail texture might go blury, in order to fix this zoom in with + very close to the plane and zoom out - . That forces the renderer to sharpen the textures up. I don't know why the issue is there but atleast there is a way arond it :/

DISC.!!

I have made various adjustments and additions to the textures already available with the plane,
credit goes to the original creators , Felipe and Guilherme and many others.

Enjoy it, have fun and be sure to e-mail me at dimitrios@cox.net with any comments

any suggestions?

i have always thought you readmes were quite explanatory... i never got the hang of how to explain in so few words how to modify the .cfg file

a few recommendations:

- you should mention that the new block of text goes right under the last line before the [general] section, maybe that'll help people get a better idea of where it goes

- maybe mentioning the pathnames to the files and folders would help the less experienced simmers

- i also think that if you explain it step by step as in: 1- do this, 2- do that, people would be able to follow a little better...

it is a hard deal, trying to explain it for everyone, specially since we designers already know how it works, so it's hard for us to see if it sounds clear enough for everybody else ;)

i still get emails asking how to install the 737, so i guess that's normal

If nature wanted a man to fly - It would have given him more money
