I have been having trouble with fs2004, when I start the splash screen appears but then stays there when I move the cursor over the splash screen, the hour glass symbol appears, so I open task manager and fs2004 is not responding!! >:(!! >:(!! >:(!!

This happens every time I open fs2004.
This has happened before so I have uninstalled fs2004 and reinstalled it, this has worked but what is the problem!!

Any Help ???

:(

I've had this problem too. However, as RollerBall said, delete FS9.cfg and restart the sim. I just did a complete reinstall, though.

Is fs9.cfg in the root folder?

Nope. If you use WinXp the fs9.cfg can be found in: C:\Documents and Settings\(name with which you log in)\Applications Data\Microsoft\FS9

Hiya, see here to locate the cfg file.
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1075346798

Basically just delete it.
When FS9 starts up again, it will see that there is no file and build a new one.
Make sure it is the fs9.cfg file and not the scenery or any other cfg file  ;)
That is it!

Good luck
Dave

...just remember tho', when you delete your FS9.cfg file you will have to re-program all your preferences in again, joystick buttons, screen size and details, hardware preferences, etc, etc, after the program starts... ;)...!

All this information is stored in the FS9.cfg file each time you use the game simulator...!

...just in case you wonder why your selected buttons on your joystick don't seem to work anymore... ;D...LOL...!

No problem tho'... ;)...!

I have delted FS9.cfg but the problem remains

When the program ends, A window opens about noteifing microsoft and also asks if i want to view the data that the error contains,

so I view the data

C:\DOCUME~1\MICHAE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER0c64.dir00\fs9.exe.mdmp

C:\DOCUME~1\MICHAE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER0c64.dir00\appcompat.txt

This is what it shows me.

and the Error signature is:

szAppName : fs9.exe     szAppVer : 9.0.0.30612     szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0     offset : 00000000

Does anyone understand this and is thereany other way of fixing the problem without reinstalling?

Thanks for all the advice so far :)

Whenever this type of fault pops up, have a think back....
Have you recently installed something which might have given you the problem...?
Aircraft?...Scenery?....Effects?....etc...

If so, try temporarily removing them, one by one...

Cheers...!

P.S. The error report is notated in Egyptian Hieroglyphics....and only a Mathematical Genius at Microsoft is capable of deciphering them...
...trust me... ;)... ;D...!

Ive just had a idea FS2004 is installed on my exturnal Hard Drive, (as it takes up about 5GB)

Could this be the cause of the error would it be safer to reinstall it onto my main hardrive?

Just a word of warning tho'....
When you un-install, if you leave the box "Remove all saved files" blank....
....you may leave the file in place which is giving you the problem, after the new install.... ;)...!

Beware... ;D...LOL...!

Hmmmm

quite likely I'd have thought although I've successfully run old copies of FS2004 and FS2002 that have remained on my HD 'unregistered' after I've done an XP reinstall so a copy on an external HD should still run in any event I think

Quite possible.
If you added something by default it will want to install it in C/Program files/Microsoft Games/FS9.

By you having it on an external HD, that may very well be the problem.

If you don't have allot of add ons, I would definitely reinstall.

But that is just me.

See if you can fire up the sim this way.
Go to:::

Task Bar/Programs/Microsoft games/Flight Simulator 2004/Safe Mode.

Tell me what happens.

It will run as my old set up was on my D Drive and worked fine. The problem was when adding things it always wanted to install in C/ etc... etc...
Opened up a real can of worms wondering if everything got where it needed to go  ;)
