"fltsim.x" question

Hi. Yesterday was my first foray into the world of FS add-ons and I successfully added half a dozen new aircraft to my FS2004 inventory which, by the way, just kicks you know what!
The problem I now have is in adding a new skin to a currently available aircraft. I successfully loaded the Vistaliners 727 that is required to be able to add additional skins an now I'm trying to add the skin of the Icelandair 727. The instructions say to "replace the "X" in "fltsim.X" with the
progress number after the your current one."
The current one says "fltsim.0" Where do I get the number I need to properly display the new skin?

You may feel silly when you read this, they run in sequence, ie, some AC already have two or three liveries, fltsim.0, 1, 2, etc so the next one would be fltsim.3.
In your case, after 0 comes number 1.

Hi techhead. The numbers follow in logical numerical sequence. If the last existing entry is [fltsim.0] then the next one in sequence will be [fltsim.1] etc. etc.
PS. Oops. Simonmd & I posted at the same time. Whenever in doubt refer to the default files. In this case, open Aircraft.cfg of any default aircraft with more than one variation to see how it's done.

I tried that and the aircraft is still not showing. I've verified that the only aircraft in the aircraft.cfg file is fltsim.0

Hi techhead - welcome.
If the AIRCRAFT isn't showing, not just the livery, then you need to check that the entry in the "sim=" line is the same as the .air file name (without the .air filetype). In other words, make sure that it's the same as the one that came with the plane. Another common reason why planes don't show is if alternative liveries have exactly the same name in the "title=" line.

Thanks, Microlight. I'll check that first thing when I get back on it this evening.

My Add a Repaint tute explains the basic principle.
http://www.simviation.com/lair/Repaint2002.htmThe tute is based on adding a new variation to a default aircraft but the principle is exactly the same. A sample Aircraft.cfg entry is usually included with repainted textures. Paste this into the Aircraft.cfg of the appropriate aircraft instead of duplicating the existing entry as shown in my tute. Remember to change the [fltsim.x] header of the new entry to the next in sequence. The texture= line must be pointed at the new folder containing the repainted textures which must be named correctly - Texture.whatever. The period (full stop) in the folder name is most important. Please note that you must have the specific version of whichever original aircraft you're adding the texture to already installed correctly for it to work properly.

I downloaded the Icelandair repaint to check it out & think I see your problem. These are the instructions in Readme.txt.
Install:
A) Download and install the Vistaliners Boeing 727
B) Open up the Aircraft.cfg with notepad
c) Copy and paste the following section after the first entry of the original section:
This is fine but the author forgot to mention pasting the included Texture.ice folder into your original 727.
It will also depend on the original version of the Vistaliners 727 you have installed. I couldn't find the original here at Simviation but there are several repaints configured as complete separate aircraft. I don't know which one you have but these might have differently named AIR files to the original. Make sure that the sim= line in the new [fltsim.1] entry is identical to the same line in the [fltsim.0] entry as Microlight suggested. This must be the exact file prefix of the AIR file in the main folder of the 727.
PS. This will be your new [fltsim.1] entry. In this example the AIR file would be named B727200_VL.air
Check that it's the same as your [fltsim.0] entry & change it if necessary.
[fltsim.1]
title=Vistaliners Boeing 727-200 Icelandair
sim=B727200_VL
