Piper Arrow or Piper Cherokee?

Hi all.

I've been flying a nice Piper Arrow recently but ATC insists on calling it a Cherokee when warning other aircraft about my position.
I've checked the aircrafts cfg file and there's no mention of the word "Cherokee". Is this just a limitation of FS9's ATC or is there a file somewhere that I can "tweak".

Cheers.

Zaphod.

This is fixable
Try this! While the plane is in the select aircraft window click on the change button then put in what you like for type of aircraft.
There should also be a line in your aircraft cfg file that should read something like atc_name="PIPER ARROW"
or something like that.
If you check any of the default aircraft you will see the line I am refering to. 8)

is in the generRe: Piper Arrow or Piper Cherokee?

Gary.
Thanks for the quick reply.
The only entry in the cfg file that looks anything like you describe is in the "General" section and is "ATC_type=" and that is already "Arrow"
As for; "While the plane is in the select aircraft window click on the change button then put in what you like for type of aircraft" the only options I get are a long list of Airline names?
Perhaps I'm missing something? Wouldn't be the first time :)

In the aircraft.cfg file, if atc_airline=American Pacific FS9 calls "American Pacific"

In the aircraft.cfg file, if atc_airline= (left blank), FS9 then defaults to the [GENERAL] section and any recognizable text written there will be used by FS9 ATC; e.g.,

atc_airline=

[General]
atc_type=CHEROKEE
atc_model=PA28A
performance=Performance, blah, blah, blah

FS9 ATC calls "CHEROKEE"

This can be edited to say any FS9 voice. May I suggest also EVP 3.1.

Well that's exactly as mine appears except instead of; "atc_type=CHEROKEE" mine reads; "atc_type=ARROW". I'm quessing this means that FS9 voice can't get it's electronic tonque around the word "ARROW?" ;D

Simple!

It's because it isn't just called the Arrow, its the Cherokee Arrow, they'll call it a Cherokee in real life too and plenty of pilots who fly them ID as Cherokees.

BTW a Cherokee Arrow is a pa28r, you may want to try putting that in the atc_model section instead of pa28a.

Cheers chomp_rock.

I've checked the cfg again and it's already a P28R but now I have your explanation I'll sleep happy.

Something else I've learned today. :)

All the best.

Easy

Just change your atc_type to Piper and your atc_model to Arrow and you become either 'Piper N345whatever' or 'the Piper Arrow on short final' blah blah  ;)

Well done Rollerball!
Totally sorted.
My poor little arrow is now getting the recognition it deserves.

Many thanks.
