For the FS2004 Terrain CFG Mod(http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/syb.c ... Lights.zip)
It says I should make a back-up file before I download it. How do I do that?

Heya Rubarb,

The original Terrain.cfg file is in the FS 2004 root directory (in a default installation it would be located at):

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9

The best way is to change the name of the file from Terrain.cfg to Terrain.bak.

..........then copy the new terrain.cfg from the Zip to replace it. If you want to go back to the original just delete the new one and change the one you renamed back to terrain.cfg..........commoner ;)

Quickest way to back up any file or folder is to take a copy of it.

For example: In Windows Explorer find terrain.cfg in the FS9 root directory. Right-click on terrain.cfg & select Copy. Now right-click anywhere in a clear space & select Paste. You will now have a copy of the file named "Copy of terrain.cfg".

This method makes it easy to locate those backed up files/folders if you ever need them some time in the distant future. The name of the original file/folder is obvious & there's no need to hunt around for it as it remains in the same location. To revert to the backup copy at any time simply delete or move the replacement & rename the original by removing "Copy of" from the file/folder name. I've been using this method for years without any problems.
