How to install scenery?

Postby homesicktexan » Wed Nov 23, 2005 9:23 pm

I downloaded the Coast Guard Air Station package and I unzipped it into the add-on scenery in fs2004. But it's not there and there are no readme instructions with it. Does anyone know how I can get this to work? Thanks.

Oh, and I did a search and came up with diddly.

You need to enable it in the FS9 settings. When you 1st start the program, at the bottom, under Select Flight, Flight Planner, Lessons, etc. is Settings. Click on this and then find and click 'Scenery Library'. Once this page is open, click Add Area and search in the addon folder to locate your new scenery. Click OK and then you must close and re-start FS9 for it to work.

I tried that and when I click Add scenery the folder(s) for the Coast Guard scenery is empty.

Take my tip & ignore all instructions to unzip files direct to FS9. Depending on how they're configured they could end up anywhere. Extract the zipfile to a Temp folder anywhere on your HD as long as you know where to look for them Then find the appropriate folders & paste them into FS9 manually. This should help. http://www.simviation.com/lair/fs2004sc.htm

Also don't click to open the folder. You just need to select the folder that has the subfolders "Scenery" and "Texture" inside of it. Select that folder and exit the settings dialog then restart the sim.

Example you have the scenery KPWT in one folder. Inside that folder you have two folders "scenery" and "texture" Put that into your add on scenery folder. Go to the settings scenery library dialog and select only the folder KPWT. Enable this and exit the sim and restart. You should see a dialog on restarting saying that FS is rebuilding the scenery database. When that's done the sim will start normally. Now you should see your new scenery.
