Mountain Skimming

Sometimes in fs, i like to take a jet and maneuver at high speeds through tight valleys and "sled" downhill of a hill or mountain, but in FS9, when ever i jet down the side of even a relatively shallow hill or mountain, the simulator "teleports me" down onto the hillside and leveling my plane with the horizon and not the hillside. And correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't remember this happening to me in fs2000.

I do from time to time the same with my MB339, if only for kicks, over the Alps. Never happened what you say. Does it do it everywhere with all the airplanes or only with some specific one on a specific scenery?

Afi's got it - that'll only happen if you've got 'detect crashes' disabled in the aircraft realism menu.

Yes, i have crashes turned off, mainly because it takes forever (and system resources for my particular machine) to reset the simulation/situation.

The jet i use is the 717-200. Sometimes i may want to use a different jet such as a 737 or a supersonic jet if i'm looking for a real challenge.

I like doing that in the X-29. The mountains north (I think) of Bremmerton Airport in Washington are a good place for that.

Try the run from Vancouver BC airport all the way to Alaska without going over the mountop elevations. That is a really excellent run. Fast and low, for my money it doesn't get any better than that.

I do that more than I do any other sort of flying; doesn't even have to be a jet.

On a side note, for those with LOMAC, there's a defualt tutorial that takes you straight into the mountains, letting fly your F-15 through the valleys; it is awesome, and feels a lot more 'powerful' than the FS9 fd engine.
