hello, im semi new to the flight sim world, i used to play games like Janes F15 and Janes Longbow 2 when i was about, 13-14 years old, i stopped playing flight sims for a while (didnt have a decent enough computer to run the newer ones at the time) and now at 18 have gotten myself all set up.  i picked up FS2004, Falcon 4.0 and Lock - On. Bought myself a Saitek X45 joystick, and got a' flyin. what i was wondering, is what are the best military aircraft/helicopters to download, that have nice textures, complete cockpits (2d and 3d) and what are some other good things i can install to "spice up my game"?. iv installed tons of aircraft so far, there are only a few that i actually enjoy flying in, as some either dont have sound, dont have very good skins or just dont work at all, and im too lazy to go snooping through my aircraft folder to delete them..lol.. and if anyone has a key setup/ profile for a saitek X45 that works well with FS9, if they could send it to me it would be great, as ther are so many buttons on this damn thing, iv heard it can take days to set up. (time i dont have). well if you could help me out...thanks a lot, and if not, thanks for reading anyways.

I don't do a whole lot of military flying myself, but I can tell you that the best fighter jet I've ever seen is Kirk Olsens F-16 Viper. It is available here at SimV.

Welcome to SimV. I have a Saitek profile that works OK for me but I usually fly GA props and that's what the profile is geared to. Also it doesn't have much in the way of labels so you may have to look through the assignments in FS to see what a button does or just experiment. Actually it really isn't as hard as you think to create your own config for the X-45. The profile editor makes it pretty easy.

I used to fly Janes F-15 too. We had a virtual squadron 105th IAG. Started out with the DID F22 and then switched to F-15 because of it's more realistic systems. Did you ever try the nuke mod for Jane's F-15? I usually ended up blowing myself out of the air with that one.  ;D

Take a look through the Military Aircraft section here at SimV you'll find a lot of good jets and transports.

i dont think i ever had the nuke. the only game i ever played with any nuclear weapons was f22 l3.. and of course  falcon 4.0. i just cant use any nukes in f4, because i guess you have to advance in the game to get it, and i belive the level is pretty far near the end... as for programming my x45.. im going to try and do it later tonight, because it seems like it will take me a while, and id like to get some BF2 in tonigh, (omg i hate this game its so addictive lol)...well thanks a lot...

The nuke mod for Jane's was done by Flying Muffin Enterprises. It had a .3 kiloton, 5 kiloton and 25 kiloton. The 25 kiloton was almost undeliverable. You had to drop it from around 35,000 ft agl and then dive away as fast as possible. Usually however you ended up with some damage anyway.  ;D

It also dropped your FRs down to about 1 after exploding. They experimented with a 100 megaton monster but that one was just impossible to use.

Kirk Olsons F-16 absolutely fabulous aircraft, you really must get this one. and my all time favorite is Dino Cantenelli's F-14B Tomcat (I like the swordsman texture) With the Tomcat you can go into the aircraft cfg file and crank up the speed pretty high if you make sure to also turn up the stability factor, there really is nothing like cruising at mach 1.9 through the Grand Canyon (below the rim of course)  Hey does anyone know if there is an effect for creating a water rooster tail from the sonic disruption of a high speed jet close to the water?
