Engine Sound Volume

I fly on-line with live ATC. Most of the planes I fly are fine as far as engine sound volume is concerned I can hear ATC perfectly. But when I fly my DHC Twin Otter, the engine sound in the cockpit and on spot view is so loud I can't hear ATC.
How do I adjust the engine sound on this particular aircraft?

Thanks to All,

Chief

Start FS, go to setup and then select sound. The first option is engine volume.

Thanks Matt, but when I lower the sound in the settings and the sound is acceptable fot DHC6, the sound is too low for all other aircraft.
I was hoping to be able to lower the volume for just the DHC6.

Thanks Anyway,

Chief

Hi Chief,

Here is how I do it using Win98SE:

Right-click on the .wav file and select "Record".

Click on "Effects", then on "Decrease Volume". (I think every click on Decrease Volume reduces it by 25%, but I'm not sure about that.)

Play the reduced sound and continue decreasing volume until you're satisfied.

When OK, click "File" and "Save".

I recommend that you back up all .wav files before messing around with them.

Regards,
JerryH

Edit: The first step is to open the sound folder and check to see which .wav files are the offending ones. Then you can adjust them as described above.

Does the aircraft have it's own sound files, or is it aliased to another...suspecting the former, open up the Sound folder within the main Aircraft folder, and then open the "Sound CFG" using MS Notepad.  You may have to play around to find the right area to tweak, but it's worth a try (of course, make a BACKUP of the original first!).  You could also try aliasing the aircraft's sound to a default aircraft (such as the Cessna Caravan) if all else fails.

If editing the wav file doesn't work, you could create and save a bunch of "Twotter" flights with the engine sound (and everything else) adjusted to your liking... a little trouble but easier than changing it every time you start up.
