can I remove the little plane indicator from the navigation window?

I really rather not see my location every time I open it up to get radio freq's etc

Are you're referring to the Map located at FS 2004 Main Menu --> World --> Map View?  Your post is unclear.  If you're referring to the Map View there is no way that I'm aware of to remove this aircraft symbol.  

There are two symbols on the Map View -- one for the aircraft position and the other for the control tower position.  Personally I feel that both symbols are necessary in the Map View.  Without the aircraft symbol in the Map View the only way for you to re-position your aircraft is to type in the longitude and latitude co-ordinates of where you want your aircraft to be.  How are you going to determine where you want the aircraft if you don't have a symbol in the Map View?  I suppose that you can get the longitude and latitude co-ordinates from a third-party program like FS Navigator?  I really don't understand why you would want to.

im thinking what  Tsakalli wants is a way to make the map screen a little more realistic....

as in real life your charts dont have a moving icon that points out your position

I don't think I've ever used the map to position my aircraft. I just "put" it at whatever airport I want during "Create a Flight". And I never view the map once I'm airborne (it's like cheating)(I don't even use the GPS). I'll use the map while on the ground as a quick way to get frequencies and/or plan my flight. Once airborne, I use real charts (VFR and IFR-low-altitude and approach-plates).

yes butwouldn't it be cool if you never had to end simulaton if you wanted to for examle island hop, and don't feel like ploting ou the entire trip before hand?

That's the funnest flying of all. Just hopping around.. knowing that if you do get lost.. your finely-honed navigational skills will get you there (even if the weather/visibility goes bad)(That, to me, is the most fun in the sim.. triangulating with VORs and NDBs to figure out where I am).

Go down to your nearest airport and get a few sectionals (ask for expired ones.. they usually give them away). They're only about seven bucks apiece and cover several states. Or.. in a pinch.. while doing your pre-flight.. you can print the map from FS9's map page. Or even do a quick sketch of the airports/nav-aids you'll be flying around.
