120MB download

Postby Bazza » Thu Nov 03, 2005 2:05 am

The new Dornier available from this site at 120MB.........where will it end.    On my modem speed I'd have to be up all night.   Someone please zap it down and tell me it's worth the wait....?

You gotta look at the extracted size. 2GB.  :o I just got a 20GB HDD, I deleted all but 2 liveries.

Yes it is!
But I do agree, 120mb expanded into 2 Gig. That is a very large lump of hard drive for one aircraft.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Don't know this download, but if it consists of dozens of different liveries, I don't know why developers do that. All that is needed for a new project is 1 or 2 liveries to get people started. Then if they like it, they'll download other specific paints that interest them, or even create and upload their own.

The number of times I've installed large downloads only to find that I've got a whole wad of obscure (for a European  :) ) South American airlines that I then promptly delete.

It's quality not quantity that counts.

It would really have to be something special to bother with 2GB of hard drive space. Absolutely everything must be included, and it must be a popular/interesting aircraft. I wouldn't say this particular Dornier would be one that people would wait around for. Perhaps something like a top of the range, freeware Vulcan, or  747 would be worth waiting for, and taking the time to download it.

The author should have kept out most of the paint schemes and put them into seperate packages.

25 liveries included with the basic aircraft files is ridiculous

Dave is it any good? More importantly: IS IT EASY TO INSTALL?

I have a 512mb boradband, but due to Simviation limits it won't make much difference.

I personally love when a developer puts in a ton of liveries.

And 120 meg download really is not that big these days unless on dial-up. Man I am glad I am not on dial-up. ;D

I know that the package installs to be over 2 gigs and to me that is a miracle. I can't even imagine a 120 meg file extracting to 2 gigs. A year ago that was unheard of. Compression technology has really come along.
