just wanted to ask : can you change the runway you wanna land on. ATC sometimes makes you turn the plane a big round to reach the assigned runway, while there are other runways, equally as long, for you to land, straight in without any weird turnings?

P.S. How do you attach photos to the message? copy and paste doesn't seem to work?

Because you always land into the wind. ;)

If there are parallel runways, you can request the other parallel runway

Aircraft are vectored by ATC to land into the wind, OR as close as possible for a headwind landing, so landings are dictated by wind direction and speed, not necessarily which runway will give you a straight in approach  :o

There is one way you can get ATC to let you land on the runway you want. What you can do is before you start the flight figure out which runway you will want to land at then just adjust the wind so that runway becomes the active runway.
I am not sure if you wait till ATC has allready contacted you and assigned a runway if you change the winds afterward I am not sure if ATC will change the runway or not. ??? 8)

but what if the weather setting is set to zero wind? like no wind at all?

Could you tell me how to put up screenshots on posts on simviation forums?

If there's no wind, a lot of airports have a preferred runways.

Terrain, obstacles, and noise abatement can decide what runway to use in optimal conditions

Hi lim, welcome to SimV.

To put images in your posts, you first need to upload them to the SimV server.
Have a look HERE for instuctions on posting images.

Cheers,

I think you can request a different runway after ATC has assigned you and before you are cleared to land. Not sure exactly but somewhere in there you can request a different runway. It's there so you can practice crosswind and tailwind landings.

It is possible to land on a different runway to that assigned. Do it this way: Bring your 'plane onto the downwind leg of the assigned r/w circuit at or below 2000' and wait for clearance to land. Acknowledge the clearance, but then extend the leg so that you are well clear of the approach, then turn onto the downwind leg of the R/W you wish to land on. make a wide circuit and just land. ATC will then direct you to ground control. It's even easier with parallel R/Ws. Just get clearance to land on the one and actually land on the other. Of course in any case it's dangerous to do this. ATC is there for a reason, #1 reason is to prevent collisions.

When flying VFR, you do get the choice to accept the selected runway, or request an alternate runway. I don't believe you get that choice when flying IFR.
