What's the difference between "Flights" folder located within the root directory of FS9 and the "Flight Simulator Files" located within DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS of the user folder?

I wont swear to it but I beleive that FS looks for flights in the Documents&Settings folder by default. If you move them FS might not be able to find them. But I have never tried so it might work. You might even be able to change where FS saves the files but once again I never have messed with it. I beleive in the old saying if something is not broke do not try to fix it. 8)
Why you you want to put them else where one place is as good as another. ???

The different 'flight' folders in FS9 has as much to do with user-enabled programming as anything else. Without pasting large quotes here may I suggest reading about Briefings in the FS9 Learning Center.

After creating a few of your own Briefings, one learns the difference between these folders. The process to create Briefings is quite involved, actually, but points out the need and the differences between the folders you've mentioned.

I believe default flights that come with the sim are included in the fs flights folder. User saved flights are stored in the flights folder un ther FS9 folder in my documents
