two questions

hey everyone-

i'm new to the forum, but not to flight sim. i am, however, new to downloads. i have one question and one problem i hope you guys can help me with.

question- i downloaded a few new repaints for default aircraft. i'm finding the install directions a little confusing. they say to alter the .cfg file and to insert a number into the first line. an example is [fltsim.XX]. i'm sure you guys are familiar with what i'm talking about. how do i know what number to put in there? i'm pretty confused about that.

problem- in the past week i've downloaded roughly 100 repaints, aircraft, adventures, sceneries, etc etc. within the past few days i've noticed my spot view (aka chase plane) no longer follows the plane. it likes to stay in one spot but within the same distance from the plane. what's going on? it's kind of cool to watch the plane fly around like this, but when it comes time to land i prefer to have the chase plane directly behind the plane so i can line up with the runway. now i'm not able to do this since the spot view has a mind of it's own!

sorry in advance if i put this topic in the wrong location. and thanks for any replies!

Use the next number in sequence in the .cfg file. I.E., if the repaint is being added to something with only one set of textures, then the number you'd use is 1. (The numbering sequence starts at 0 (zero).

Have you made any key assignment changes recently? If so, I'd check out if you might have accidentally deleted the one you use to rotate the spot view.

Hi Skysurfer. For adding repaints please read this tute & see if that helps. http://www.simviation.com/lair/Repaint2002.htm
It was written for FS2002 but the principle is exactly the same. It's a bit late now but maybe I should update it for FS9.

For the other question maybe you changed the View setting from the FS9 Options menu. I can't think of any reason it would change on its own. To revert to the default settings delete fs9.cfg before starting FS9.

[fltsim.0], [fltsim.1], etc.  Always start with zero, don't skip any numbers.  Also, the "title=" part must be different for each texture, you can use a variation if you like, for ex., title= F-16 a, title= F-16 b, etc.  The actual title name does not affect anything.

Your second question is not too clear: Try this:

Menu>Views>View options>Spot plane>Gradual transition--->  Uncheck the gradual transition box.  If that works, you will have to uncheck it each flight, or just save the default (or any other) with the box unchecked.
