HI all, am new to this so be gentle

When planning an ifr flight from uk to usa, i am having trouble with the routing.
If you go from somewhere in Uk (say heathrow) and plan a route (to say jfk), the route FS2004 gives me always seems to go via a point away above Seattle, almost Alaska. I have had this problem going both uk-usa and vice versa. It seems crazy.

Why would it do this???

You can either use the GPS direct option, or remove the waypoints you don't want

I could do that but cant understand why it would do this in the first place. Was hoping someone else had found the same.

GPS would just take you direct a-b??

I don't think anyone knows why the simulator does that.

The GPS direct to option creates a route from the departure point, directly to the destination airport you choose.

You can also add your own waypoints if you choose

The simulator does that because-(copied from another recent post of mine)

There are no HAAWs (High-altitude-airways) that carry directly over the Atlantic ocean, unlike the Pacific. There are proper routes to follow, however. If you zoom out and take a good look at the airways, you will notice that they create funnel points. Certain intersections are used as entry points, others as exit points.

So, plot the course using direct GPS, and then manually select points along the airways.
