Scenery compatability

Postby Skyfox688 » Thu Sep 29, 2005 7:45 pm

Not having added scenery before, would you kindly advise me whether scenery designated for FS2002 or FS 2000 is generally compatible with FS2004?
Thanks

Heya Skyfox,

Personally I only use sceneries that are made specifically for FS 2004.

I don't even try to install sceneries from FS 2000 but I've installed a number made for FS 2002. The biggest problems I've run into was placement where the scenery will not be exactly where it's supposed to be. This is most troublesome with float plane docks etc. The Alaska Docks scenery needs a couple files removed to work correctly.

Another problem is with textures. Some changes were made in the way FS 2004 handles textures so a few sceneries will show purple, blue or other color boxes where the texture should be transparent. With DXTbmp and a photo editor you can fix many of these problems by filling the blue, purple or whatever with 0,0,0 black.

Other than that I haven't had any major problems installing scenery from FS 2002. You will want to seperate your sceneries into a special folder to make removal a lot easier if you do have trouble. Always, with sceneries you aren't sure of, don't just unzip into FS. Copy everything by hand so you know where everything is in case you run into problems.
