My FS2004 Won't Run

Postby Bubblehead » Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:42 am

??? ??? ??? ??? ???

My FS2004 was working fine but today it won't run. When I click on the icon, the FS2004 logo will appear but after a few seconds it will revert back to the Desktop.  I tried this several times but no joy. I even rebooted my PC. Can any one help?

alrighty, i know this problem i have it sometimes.

what you do as a first addressing of the issue

>find the file called FS9.cfg.

most likely here:
C:\Documents and Settings\*your name*\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

>delete it.
>restart FS

I believe I got me a bag of worms now. I deleted FS9.Config as you've suggested. No joy. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it but still no joy.  Which generated another question. When I reinstalled the program and clicked the box which stated not to reinstall "saved files", but after reinstallation my "saved files" were still there.  I wish to try to reinstall the original game without all the junk i've added over the yeats, how to I do that? If that still don't work, perhaps something went wrong with the disk 4. This phenomenon only happened all of a sudden. I've been playing the game OK for the past several days and I have done any tweaking at the time I experienced the problem. I could just do away with FS9 and play with my FS2002. Any help will be highly appreciated.

okay, I once did a full reinstall.  First, run the uninstall.  Then, go find the FS folder, and delete it.  Make sure there is no fs9 folder in your program files/microsoft games folder.  Then run the installer, and youre good to go.

More than likely, an add-on you have is causing it.  My first step would be to remove the last thing (plane, scenery, whatever) that you installed.  If it still doesn't start, next would be to look in the modules folder , to see if you can find FSUIPC.dll.  Not that FSUIPC is a bad program, but I've had more planes cause conflict because of that than I care to count.

Let me know how you do...

You have to manually delete a few files after you've uninstalled, even if you tell it to delete everything, you still have to go and mop up.  This has gotten me more than a few times.

Alleluhia! I got my FS9 back. After trying a few options, I decided to uninstall the FS9  but first I saved my aircraft, gauge, sound, texture, effects and module files. Then I reinstalled the FS9 without the added files.  I started the game in its original state and repeated the process each time I added files. The game worked until I added the saved modules. Apparently I added a few modules, mainly the A840 files and it caused the problem. So all's well that ends well. Thanks for the input.

Kevin:

Thanks for the input. Please read my previous thread "FS9 Module" which is associated with this one. Does it matter which version (date created) I use in the module? I would like to use the latest one which I suspect gave me the start up problem but deleting the "FSUIPC.DLL" file as you've suggested. Is this a good move?

Thanks.

I'm not sure.  I installed an earlier version when I got Arrcabs, and everything has been fine since.  Not one single conflict; so your mileage may vary.  Play with it a bit and see what you come up with...

Kevin:

I updated to 9.1.  My FS9 Module automatically updated to the latest version. It didn't have the FSUIPC.dll file so I guess it's OK.  My FS9 starts up OK now.

Thanks.
