FS9 Sound Problem

Ok this problem is really making me mad. Everytime I turn on the sound in FS9 about 3 seconds later FS crashes...WTF?? This is really annoying and I feel like taking a hammer and breaking my PC up...You know the feeling. I don't know what the problem is. Everytime I take shots, the stupid "Sound Off" message is there and my shots are ruined as a result. Could this be a faulty FSSound.dll? Is there anyway to get it leaglly or do I have to fly without sound. Reinstalling is not an option as I lost FS9-Disk 2...No way to reinstall. I am still frantically searching for it...but I highly doubt I will find it...
Thanks in advance!!
Cheers all,
Ashar :-[ :(

Wow! I swear I replied about an hour ago... wierd.

Anyway: Does everything else that uses sound aside from FS run OK? If not, try updating your sound drivers.

Does this happen no matter what aircraft you fly? Some aircraft will not work right (or at all) if a guage file is messed up. I doubt this is your problem.

If all else fails, try looking for FSSound.dll on the CDs that you do have. Check all of the .cab files.

Everything besides FS has sound...all my games...even the media players...It happens no matter what aircraft I fly...

If this happens all the time I'm not sure that this would be an fssound.dll issue. Fssound.dll is required for some addons that use 'code' from older FS versions, most often gauges with sound. (Dont even think it comes with FS9).

Is the gauge missing from your ..\Modules folder

If you have the file, check FS9.cfg for this entry

[OLDMODULES]
fssound.dll=1         <-make this entry if not there.

Do you recall adding any sound files, particularly 'environmental' sound, that could be corrupt or incompatible?

Run the DirectX diagnostic utility to check for sound problems.  'Start>Run> type in  dxdiag  > hit enter. Run the sound tests.

You could  try adjusting the acceleration on your sound card.  Start>Setting>Control Panel>Sound and Audio--click the Audio tab--in the Sound Playback section click the Advanced bar--click the Performance tab.. adjust the sliders.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. I have done all the above but still FS wants to crash. After about 5-10 seconds, FS goes off and I get a black screen. I then have to exit using Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Then I have to end the Task to make FS stop. The only thing with 'environmental sounds' that I have added are the payware Emma Field and Active Camera. The problem was there before I installed either of the add-ons....
Thanks,
Ashar
