Specific sound problem -

I hope this is in the right section, also, I searched the treads for a similiar topic, but didn't find what I was looking for.

After having a HD crash ( bye-bye my 10gig FS9 folder  :-[ ) I've been rebuilding my FS9 files.

When I installed Dino Cattaneo's excellent F-14B ( f14bfs9a.zip ) along with the updates and flew it, I found I don't have engine start up, shut down and flap sound. All other sounds for that aircraft work properly.

I opened the sound folder for that aircraft and tried playing those sound files and I get a windows media player error.

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found."

So being the adventerous soul I am I installed what audio codecs I could find for media player 10 on WinXP Pro, all to no avail.

I then downloaded that same file from this site again, along with from a different site, and still I have that media player error.

My operation system is up to spec with the same setup I had previously before the HD crash, although with media player, I just don't know.

Is there a particular audio codec I need , or is there some other issue I am over looking?

Any advice will be appreciated.

This rings a bell. Maybe those sound files are compressed & the required codec is missing. I had a similar problem some time ago. Not with WinXP & it was before FS9 was released. Unfortunately I can't remember how I fixed it now. You could try the M$ knowledge database. http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?catalog=LCID%3D1033%26CDID%3DEN-US-KB%26PRODLISTSRC%3DON&mode=s&cat=false&query=codec&srch=sup&x=9&y=7
Doesn't seem so good since they updated it. If that doesn't help try a general search on Google.

Good luck.
