On thursday evening I downloaded and attempted to install a Dehavilland twin otter (props page 51 DHC6-300 twin otter - Air Moorea). after getting no joy with the panel I gave up and remove the aircraft from my aircraft folder, now I can't start up the flight sim and get an error message stating aircraft failed to initialise DHC6... shut down. can anyone help me solve this problem? many thanks in advance.

Does this model have an auto-installer? And if so did you remove it by just deleting the model in the aircraft folder?

I think it has some type of auto install but I followed the instructions as best I could and yes I removed the folder from the aircraft folder

I think this is because you set your default flight using this aircraft. Easiest thing is to delete your fs9.cfg file and start over. Don't bother reinstalling the aircrfat though as that's not the problem

It is in a hidden folder. You have to do a search of the machine for fs9.cfg, when it fails tell it to look in hidden files and folders and it'll find it

You state you deleted C:\Documents and Settings\Bill\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\fs9.CFG and FS9 still will not load? That's hard to believe. Maybe you just deleted a fs9.txt file.
Bill
P.S. If it's just an initialization error that can be dealt with later; first you have to get FS9 to load.

why don't you try putting the plane back in, then trying to uninstall it using the auto-installers remove program. If you can't remove it, there really is no harm in leaving it and never flying it. Just before I got my new computer, I had a friend over and was showing him all of the planes in my sim on the old computer, and I saw some that I didn't even remember putting in. I had about 150 planes in the aircraft folder.

Latest update and closure on this subject for me - Rollerball was right, I had set the offending aircraft to the default one while I was trying to get it to work properly. Then I stupidly deleted it without resetting the default to one that was there. I have now managed to install the aircraft correctly and it works like a dream. Again thank you all for your prompt and timely assistance.

P.S. WJS you were also correct I had deleted the read me file only not the CFG file proper

I gotta say, I really like the the PAD planes, but all the panel aliasing and install stuff can get to be a little much. I'm starting a rework activity of all my planes to get rid of as much of the aliasing I can, and I've just picked up FSPanelStudio to help fix things up. No more Beech King Air panels on a DH6!
