New to here & FS2004

Just wanted to say hello. I'm new to the game and to the forum.

I recently got my dad a laptop (my parents are way behind the technology curve), FS2004, and joystick and showed him how to play. He has worked on F-15's as a electrician for about the last 30 years (about to retire) and is naturally all about flight. He wants to fly planes of all types but also a F-15 but the military sims are all about shooting and dog fighting and he was simply wanting to fly around so FS2004 and the F-15 add on aircraft was perfect. Searching for a F-15 is what brought me to this great website by the way  ;)

After watching him play I had to get the game myself so here I am. Me and my dad communicate almost daily on the phone about where we went and what we saw on FS2004 so its great. I have pretty much got the basics down but he is stubborn and wants to land a 737 without ILS or any assists so needless to say he tends to take out anything on the tarmac  ;D

I myself downloaded the Air Force One aircraft and have been doing some flights for the Prez. I'm currently heading from Andrews to Baghdad for a secret moral trip for the troops. I may hope over the Afganistan then who knows from there. Is there anyway to add any aircraft such as F-15's to fly with the 747 as escort security? I doubt it but worth asking I guess.

I have been playing with the display properties a lot trying to find the sweet spot too. It seems I have to decide if I want poor visual quality and lots of traffic 50+%(I added a lot of traffic from downloads here) or great visuals but only low traffic 10-20%. I'll keep reading and testing to try to get the best of both worlds. I turned antialiasing off but the visuals were horrible!

Comments are welcome and nice to meet everyone!

welcome TwoLow. this is a mad but fun place i ama pilot i fly a p28, but in saying thay inflight sim i get to fly all the big stuff that i would never be able to do in real life. i have downloaded the  A380 it is a good plane to fly, tell your dad to just try and try again not to fast just  right amont of flapsbut you do need a good joystick one with twist is best so you get good rudder, and dont forget the flair on touch down! then full flaps full spoilers and brake as needed. Have many fun HRS

Welcome to SimV TwoLow,

There certainly is a way:

Get it here:
http://www.simviation.com/fs2004misc4.htm

Right at the top of the page.

Personally I have never used TTools ('traffic tools' - which is required aswell), so I have no idea how easy it is to install & use, but there are plenty of people here at SimV who will know the score & be able to help if it is needed.

Hope this helps - have fun.

TSC.

Thanks! I'll check that out when I get off work. I wonder if I can edit it to be a F-15. F-14 =:-/

I would've thought that you could quite easily change the F14 to any plane you like. But again, personally I wouldn't know how to do that.

Shouldn't be a problem though, i'm sure someone will come up with an answer. It's probably just a case of moving a couple of files around.

Cheers,

TSC.

Yeah, I read the README and I can change the escort plane but the one bad thing is your stuck going to one of the all ready set flight plans from what i read.

Maybe I can play with it and make it do differently.

I can't wait to get off work now  ;D

With TTools you can make a flight plan for any plane you have in your inventory.  It's worth your while to seek it out...

Welcome to SimV TwoLow.

With TTools you can change the aircraft and create flightplans for the AI to wherever you want... once you learn how to use it.

best,

Welcome to the SimV forum, 2low Most of what you want you'll find right here at SimV. May I suggest you get in on the ground floor of MS's next sim release (FS2006) due out within a year; you're a little behind the curve; FS2004 (aka FS9) has been out for two years now.

Enjoy FS2004 . . . we are :-)

welcome to simv, you can find any help on TTools a few forums down. I believe Rollerball would be the best person to ask in this area.
