Most Difficult Approachs

Just want to put together a list of some of the more interesting or difficult approaches available in FS9 whether it be for commercial or GA aircraft.

Personally, I find two East Coast airports, KLGA and KDCA offer some tricky approaches. KDCA offers the RWY19 Potamic approach and KLGA offers a steep approach for RWY04.

From Tokyo to Osaka IFR- the glideslope is a nightmare, as you have to gain altitude to clear a large hill before dropping at 20 degrees to make the runway.

At this point you tend to pitch down too steeply to make the short runway and end up on the grass. I know I did in a 777-200.

VNLK - Lukla, Nepal.

Over a mountain & then dive down or up the valley & turn sharp right. Whatever way you go, you only get one chance!!

Paro Bhutan is quite difficult !!

Faroe Islands, (they only have one airport).

I personally don't think it's very tricky in FS9, but a lot of people do, because of it's fairly short runway.

In real life the challenge is predicting the weather, as it constantly changes, you can easily experience winter (cold weather, snow), spring, summer (a lot of sun, and no wind) and fall (big storms) in one day.

The pilots that flyes there are special trained.

The most difficult airport I've landed at so far has been Los Alamos (KLAM) runway 9.  It isn't too difficult but I'm not very accustomed to doing approaches over mountain tops yet  :P.

Like cobzz mentioned, try VHHH, Kai Tak.  It is universally acknowledged as one of the hardest approaches for large commercial jets.

You also might want to try Saba (sorry, don't have an ICAO, I'm at work ), which is in-errm-Switzerland I think.  It has the shortest runway in the world (or at least the shortest with active commercial operations-it's REALLY short).

Portland Navy, Dorset, England, (EGDP).

Not a difficult approach, but just a 750ft runway.

The 747 is just to give a comparison of size.

You should try out the world tour online in wspilots.com.  I can't remember the name, but there was one location that gives you like a <1000ft runway.  One side is surrounded by a high cliff, the otherside is surrounded by a high waterfall.  Have to make a steep 60 degree descending turn (to make a 90 degrees) just to make the runway.  Have fun!
