Cottoning on

Hi, I can't get cumulus clouds to display properly.
Sunny summers day, i've juggled every display setting its possible to juggle, but still no luck, the nearby ones look perfect like cotton wool balls, but the ones at around a dozen miles or more are nothing more than dull grey silhouettes.
Any suggestions how i can turn them into cotton balls?
(i can mail a screenshot of the problem if anybody wants to see it)
Thanks

In you settings, under display, go to the weather tab.  From there i believe you set the cloud draw distance up, and they will be better hopefully.  Also check if your clouds are detailed clouds or simple, for what you're looking for, do detailed.

Not only cloud draw distance, but visibility distance (in Weather settings) makes a difference. and don't forget that sometimes that's just how clouds look in RL...
For what it's worth, unless you've got a very nice rig (I don't) you'll want to keep those values on the modest side. Drawing those clouds uses up a lot of memory, and framerates may suffer.
I find it looks good enough for me with lower settings, as in RL I've rarely seen unlimited visibility in my part of the world anyway.

Thanks guys, yes the cloud draw and visibility settings seem to be the key and i've now juggled clouds to look a lot better, "unlimited visibility" seems to be the clincher setting, but the downside is that although clouds now look okay, vis is now crystal clear to the horizon with no realistic haze effect.
Oh well can't have everything..

....I had a problem with my horizons....Do you have a Radeon card? If so.....

Find your display.cfg file in the main fs9 folder, open with notepad and find this section and edit it to look like this:

;----------------------------------------------------------------------
; ATI Radeon Win2k/XP
;----------------------------------------------------------------------
[ati2dvag.dll]
Disable=1
TableFog=0
[ati2dvag.dll.1]
MinDriverRev=5.13.01.3102
Disable=2
TableFog=0

This fix will give you haze where you didn't have it....Don't forget to BACK UP the file first..commoner .

If you have a different card then ..dunno....commoner ;)
