It sounds like you should be doing pretty good, but back off your settings and see what happens.
Also make sure nothing is running in the background.
Last and not least, Google "FS9 Tweaks" and tweak the heck out of it!

I've found some jerkiness to be due to texture loading times. Try lower res textures or turn down some settings. Also what frame rate have you limited FS to?

Something is very wrong there.
I have a P4 3.0E
1024 PC 3200
GF 6600gt.
running the sim and monitor at 1152 X 864
4 X anti- aliasing.
Even flying the PMDG 737 or heavies into busy airports, it is as smooth as a baby's bum.
Most sliders full on except clouds and water.which are minimal.
Someone else alluded to other things running in the back ground; shut everything off except your software firewall if you have one.
Make sure your drive is clean (junk dumped, defragged)

"That doesn't incude 40 gigs of addons does it?"

But seriously Vic,
here is a good (completely safe) little program I've been using for years to keep the drive clean of garbage. I run it once a week then defrag..

With a name like Crap Cleaner it has to be good ;D
I will have to give this a try, I already have some good maintenance software but I got to try this just becasue of the honesty of the name! LOL

my new computer
is
3.4ghz 800mhz fsb
2gig 533mhz RAM
X850XT PE
and it still pauses.
maybe you could try a diferant game.
Fs2004 runs ok and chugs on my pc, but battlefield 2 runs perfect.

Cobzz, there is absolutely NO way you should be having any problems on that monster. Something is seriously wrong if you are. I've got half the machine you do and have tweaked it to the point of smoothness at almost max settings.

No Vic,
you certainly do not need an anti virus scanner running while you are flying..the only thing that should be in your system tray is your software firewall (if you have one) and maybe the volume control...
Some anti virus programs don't use much resources but others (like Norton and McAfee) will really hit you hard.

Personally if flying online no way would I turn off antivirus

That has got to be some of the worst advice I have read, no offense to you MH, many others had offered this advice for online gaming.
If offline flying is what you are asking about shut everything off!
FSAutoStart is awesome, the inital setup can be a pain but once that is done you can use the same profile for what ever program you wish

Tried CCleaner and it seemed to have got a lot of junk that my other program misses, of course it would probably pick it up is I got the paid version
