Why put aerobatic planes on FS???

Why on earth does Microsoft put an Extra 300 on flight sim if the freakin' thing doesn't even do aerobatics?  IT's the stupidest thing I've ever seen.  That airplane is about as far from realistic as you could get.  IT doesn't stall, and you climb in spins.  If it's so crappy, why do they even bother to put it in?  Just because it's a sexy lookin' little plane?

I think on the next version they should either eliminate the Extra, or actually do something with their flight model that would allow it to do *real* aerobatic maneuvers.

To appeal to the gaming crowd, that isn't as hung up on realism as the rest of us.  It's a brilliant move, strategically.  Appease both audiences, and both buy your product.

Yeah, maybe so... but still, I think even the most aviation-dense gamer would know that a plane doesn't spin UP and BACKWARDS at the same time.  The piece of crap doesn't even snap roll right... pretty much any use of the rudder sends it sailing in all directions.

Talk to Patty Wagstaff, then complain. I quite like the Extra for practicing, but you can't beat an An-225 for pure stunt ability ;)

Let me get this straight, you were able to make the Extra spin? :o

HOW did you do it? And what did you mean it spins up and backward? I could not grasp the meaning of it.

With the right settings, you can do a Hammerhead, too...

Sounds like you need to tweak your settings for that Extra, Boss... I can manage my modest repertoire of  loops, four-point rolls, spins, hammerheads, and snap rolls in it without too much trouble. At least I could till I changed everything and didn't make a note of my settings... :P
I've even done a couple of Lomchevaks in it, but only by accident.
As for spinning upwards, etc., I've only noticed that with high-altitude jets, etc.; never seen the Extra do that.
It's definitely not like the real deal, esp. the snap rolls, but I like it.

FS wasn't designed to have spinnable aircraft. A few v.clever people developed realistic spinning for their models back in the 2k2 days, and now most add-on aerobatic planes in FS9 have it.
Remember the more skillful the pilot the less good the plane has to be ;)

They probibly still put it on,

Cause they knew that us lot would just go and get the

FFS Extra 300L (freeware)

And then wouldnt complain..

But i agree with what hype said...

This thread got me back in that Extra after not touching it for a while, and I remember now there are some problems... for one thing, it is real trouble on the ground, even in the takeoff roll. That would make sense, but I think it's just too much.
Tried a few snaps, and noticed the nose will drop coming out, no matter what I do in terms of entry speed or increasing power at the end. And if you're anywhere near stall (or stalled., as is the case in a snap roll) the nose wants to whip up and down. I have a feeling the real thing is a little more manageable... As for spins, couldn't do it. Could've sworn I did once, but really the best I can do now is to force it with aileron, otherwise it won't start rotating properly. Even then, it's not like a true spin. It likes to go flat, too, but I'd guess the real Extra has that tendency as well.
I did a couple of  hammerheads, but noticed you can't be too close to vertical on the way up; it'll try to go over on its back. And each time, It started to tailslide a bit before the nose came around, but that's probably because I didn't have quite enough airspeed coming up, or needed a bigger blast of power to force the tail up.
