Lots of really good info on there Marlin, thanks. But couldnt find the thing i was after :(. I just remembered some more detail about it, it was the one where you replaced the line in the CFG that says your graphics card name with something like win2k...., Sorry but cant really remember any more detail.

...it goes like this........say you have the card as below..in the FS9.cfg DISPLAY section it will be something like this. Otherwise substitute your card.

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420.0]

whatever your card is should be displayed here.

You delete this and replace it with a generic line for all Nvidea cards:

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA Drivers on Win2K/XP]

..hope it helps...commoner ;)

Probably the best way to get good frames in FS9 is to turn down those 3D clouds into Simple clouds...
Cheers,
Ashar ;D

Google is your friend.  Use search strings like "FS9 Tweaks", "FS9.cfg tweaks", etc...then do as many as you're feeling up to doing.

The result is PHENOMENAL.

::)

I think this is what is referred to as 'apochryphal'.

I cannot see how, if you have any kind of decent graphics card, you get better performance with the MS default VGA drivers that you always dump as soon as you install Windows, than you do with the latest drivers downloaded from the card maufacturer's website that are specifically intended for your card. That's what I think this does.

I cannot imagine selling any of my clients a new PC and saying, 'Yeah mate, I know you spent

Can see where your coming from RollerBall, but i can guarentee you, on my system it makes a significant difference, i.e from 18 to about 25 fps, which is not the sort of change that you could be imagining.

Maybe because the game is made by MS it just runs mor efficiently with the MS designed drivers.

Could also be because i am running on out of date drivers, for my slightly dated card, GeForce4 MX440?

Either way, it works, so i am gonna stick with it ;)

Perhaps this is one of those things that only works for True Believers...

On the basis that I'll try anything twice, tried it when it was first discussed with my then ATI9700 Pro, and since that went t*t* up, again this time with my old GeForce3 Ti which I've had to revert to. In both cases I tested the same flights/times/locations - on the ground, airport location with AI (would be bonkers to do it flying at 30000ft over empty terrain) - and in neither case did I see any improvement in FR.

Lucky you if you do though  :)

Well, it all depends on what your video card is.  Some people's cards will have bigger effects on things than others.  My old Nvidia was most effected by autogen scenery.  But this Radeon I have is indeed cloud affected.
