Sim "real weather" didn't match actual weather

Yesterday, 19JUN05, was a beautiful sunny day here in the Pacific Northwest.

Using ActiveSky and downloading the weather from KSEA, I was flying through thunderstorms, rain and 25kt winds near KAWO (about 50nm north of KSEA). I then conducted a manual download from a nearby weather station. Same thing.

I checked the weather report date, 192255Z. At the time the actual Zulu time was 2310Z.

I remember seeing posts about this kind of problem but didn't read them at the time because I wasn't having trouble at the time. Now that I am... I can't find anything.

What were the reasons? Maybe I should check some FAQs?

Joe

Try deleting your temp internet files.  They can cause problems when you're using real world weather.

The weather you get is the weather experianced by the nearest weather station to the location you're flying. This means weather can vary slightly, though but what you're experiancing I should think it's something else causing the problem...

There was a four hour difference between actual time and station reporting time.  They may just not have updated, for whatever reason.

Yep, I have the same thing.
So just putting the sim on cloudy and with a breeze would be accurate for my local area. ;D

Some weather stations as hype said have a delay in updates.
This can range from 5 mins to 5 hours. If you get the weatherbug program and look at the local stations it will show you how often its updated. that way you can select a differant weather station in game.

I use FireFox for a browser. It does not use the standard Temp Internet Files directory and I have not found where it places the temp stuff. But I'll search some more.

Thanks all for your rapid responses.

That's actually a good point... if firefox is your default browser, I guess it uses it to get the RW weather.  Didn't think of that (I use firefox too).  I'm not 100% sure firefox even has temp internet files-if you have IE, just delete those.

DON'T get weatherbug! get weather pulse. WB is full of adware and popups and crap. I honestly dont remember where I got weather pulse, so google it if you want to get it.

I found my cache C:\Documents and Settings\Joseph H. Cardana\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\rycd5gcy.default\Cache

I think there is something weird about weather in the sim. When I was doing some stuff in the KSFO area, every time I started at Alameda NAS it was always low cloud and rain, even if I set weather to 'Fair'.

Then after I'd taken off and flown about a mile all of a sudden the screen would 'flash' and I'd have clear blue skies.

When I was doing my European trip that I never finished, I flew into Warsaw I think back in March with real weather in snow. Then every time I started after that with real weather I had snow. Crazy in April/May time flying over the snow fields of southern England....

It only got better when I reverted to an old backup copy of the sim.

PS

If you have real weather set as default try forcing it to download latest real weather when you load the sim by selecting a weather theme, say, and then switching back again to real weather. You might find that what you get is completely different to what you started with.

Sounds to me like you weren't flying with live updates, and what was happening is you were flying outside of the "station", so FS just put clear weather in, since it didn't have anything else to go on...

again i would suggest weatherbug, to find out what stations near you are live and what arnt. usually airports are included as weather stations so it can be helpful.
