Lost Sound

Postby Springer6 » Wed Jun 15, 2005 2:56 pm

Like a fool I installed the SP2 patch on my Windows XP operating system ( in the forlorn hope that it would help protect me from virus pop ups, it did not ) .

More seriousely, I have now lost all sound on Fs2004 ( and Fs 2002, CFS3 and CFS2) . The sound is turned on in the simulators .

Has anyone come across this and knows a cure. I would only want to re-install the simulators as a very last resort as they are all much modified.

To the best of my knowledge, I'd just reinstall. Save all your downloaded aircraft to a disk and reinstall.

Hi Springer,

The FS2002 Forum has a new message thread called "ATC Voices".

The comments there might be useful to you.

Thanks all , problem solved.

My pc had been infected with the virus "Smitfraud" which amongst other things causes nasty pop ups and bogus messages about spyware etc. However it did not seem to initially affec MS Flight Sims.

I installed SP2 to my XP operating system in an effort to mitigate the effects of the virus and I assume that something within SP2 caused/allowed Smitfraud to clash with the FS programmes removing the sound.

Yesterday I went through the quite complicated process of removing Smitfraud

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=75890

and hey presto the sound returned on my sims.

This is a very insidious virus which is quite difficult to remove. It causes difficulty with flight sims and makes it's way into your pc via Internet Explorer . I now use Firefox as my web browser.
