Landing trails needed!...

Well sorry for the lack of my aviation and sciencetific terminology...
Well when you are on final and just about to touch down in a commercial jet airliner, sometimes trails from the end of the wings appear often in moist and damp conditions...i have never seen this on FS before, and i think its a great realism add on.
Now does anyone know of an free ware add on for this?

Thanks MUCH appreciated!

Happy simming my friends

I am assuming you mean this....

If so, it is coded in the effects of the plane that the aircraft comes with.  Unless you have real knowledge of something like that, it would be quite impossible.

However, you could, in the aircraft.cfg of the specific plane you wanted, add in the EFFECTS area, the name of the effects file you want.  It would most likely be named wingtipvortex or something similar.  Then you would write in the file name in the effects.  Not quite sure it would be in the right place though...

The best way would be if someone with XML knowlege would create an XML gauge to control this effect based on say........altitude+speed. Say you get down to 50-100 ft and speed is below whatever, the gauge would kick in these effects.

Any other way, and you would have to "turn on" the effect or have it all the time.

Are you XML gauge programmers listening?  ;)

The XML way would be ideal but I am not familiar with how to do this - another cheap & nasty way of doing it (as I did), is as follows.

Thanks for all the help guys, once a official release of this has been created i will give it a try. For some reason i think it ads great realism to a take off and landing, and i cant believe nothing like this before has been requested! What do you think?

Thanks alot any way fellow' simmers

Actually the best thing to link it to would be AOA, since these low-pressure condensation trails are a function of angle-of-attack. That way, at any point in flight, when you pulled enough Gs or did something else (like slow flight) to get to a high AOA, they would appear.

There's a freeware T-38 that has these trails on all the time, so perhaps those effects could be modded to an AOA trigger.

iFDG's aircraft come "equipped" with these effects and the the press of the I key starts it. Not sure if that's what you want to know. Those are wing vortices.

There are plenty of effects for wingtips using the some of the default FS9 effects and textures. I have placed many of these on some of my favorite downloaded acft.

Problem is, I have to hit the I key to start them up. So having wingtip vapor vortices is not the problem, it's how they are generated. I think this is what JIMBO is asking.

There are a couple of XML gauges out there that do with "timing" of effects. One displays the sonic boom/vapor effect and the other displayed the engine exhaust based on the N1 factor. Both of these are "timing" XMLs and I have used them to generate other effects for my acft.

What we need is an XML gauge designed specifically with the correct timing parameters. jknight's solution sounds good, the AOA. But you may be at a fairly high altitude and flying slowly and your AOA could be increased, which would activate the vapor vortices.

I think maybe AOA plus altitude would be the two parameters required in order to display the effects correctly and at the right time that JIMBO is looking for.

OK, so who is going to learn XML gauge language?   ;D

On the topic of these, I'm sitting here in the Atlanta airport after arriving on an MD-88. I had a window seat, so I got a good opportunity to observe this effect. It is so humid here that for the last 30 seconds of our final approach, vapor clouds were forming over the whole wing, and large vapor trails were streaming off the flap corners.

That would be extra-cool if the effect had the vapor cloud too!
