Scenery bitmaps

Postby biffo » Sun May 22, 2005 6:45 am

:) Bonjour. I recently downloaded a couple of scenery bitmaps which would show the yellow rape fields of Europe which abound here in France in the Spring. The info says it's OK to use with FScene but try as I can, I am unable to get the new scenery to show. I have replaced the 2 bitmaps in every "scenery" folder I can find in desparation but still no go. Can anyone help? There is no contact address with the files. Could it be because I have France Landclass installed but that doesnt seem to affect the Spring scenery of FScene? Any advice would be welcome.

If it is indeed a .bmp file is would normally go in a texture folder. Where for these specific files is difficult to say without more info.

With the download file name or the .bmp files names, I or someone else here could hopefully give a specific answer to your problem

Most downloads come with a 'readme.txt' file (or something similar) explaining the install proeedures.

Dave

The practice of placing files in 'anywhere' to see if it works is probably not a good one.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Hi Dave. Of course you are right, I meant Texture folders not Scenery.
Yup, normally there is a readme and indeed there is, but nothing about installation. One assumes you just install the bitmaps [qty2] in the same texture folder as the FScene testures [after all, the readme implies they work complimentary with same] but finding all the FScene bitmaps and replacing the 2 with the new 2 [after backing up], doesnt show the yellow fields  :-/ Could it be I am not flying over them  ??? ???
No big deal but just thought they would be a nice addition. Thanks for you post and I have found careful trial and error has worked in the past as long as I am careful so I am happy to continue.

Bonsoir commoner.  :) The file came from avsim "realspring.zip" but I just did a search for it and it's not there anymore :( ...Ummmm, I have it here if you want it - the screenies which I came with it are brilliant and I would love to have it installed. The file is 3.8Mb big.

Bonjour commoner  ;) Just let me know if you would like me to send it to you. I would upload a screenie if I knew how to do it - must be something to do with the little picture in the line above the smileys, but I don't have the time at the moment.
Bon journe

OK, I will give it a try. I have just finished a fast flight around the Loire in an AlphaJet, where I know from experience there is plenty of rape growing, but no sign of it  :( . I had a look at the replacement .bmp's and they were exactly the same size as the orginals so perhaps the author uploaded the orginals by mistake   ??? and removed them from avsim himself. Anyway, I will send on to you what I have and maybe it will give you a taste of things to come  ;)

....Hi again Biff.......I have actually had some success with your files using the FS9 textures.......here are a couple of screenshots showing the results I have had......first is after leaving LFOJ (Orleons) and looking around for signs of the Rape....saw this area as pic...second is over and around the East Midlands (UK)........It doesn't seem apparent everywhere, which is probably no bad thing and I looked in Canada and Bangladesh where there was no sign of it either.

.. Image

.. Image

..........you might notice that the green around the yellow fields doesn't blend perfectly.....just want tweaking a bit I guess......

......can't help you with FSscene but to use the bitmaps as I did.......Open the FS9 main folder..then Scenery...then World...then Texture....look CAREFULLY for two files with EXACTLY the same names as your new files......either put them somewhere in another folder for safety or rename them...then put your two new files in there in place of the default ones.......that's all.

I suspect it will work the same for your payware.......do a search for those two files and I feel sure you will find them and they will just need to be exchanged.

.................la bonne chance mon ami.....commoner ;)

??? Hmmmm - well your advice is what I thought I did  ???
but I will have another go this evening. Perhaps the poor blending is because the files were supposed to enhance the payware scenery, here's hoping.
