Is it possible to add a gps to A/C that do not have one and if so where would you find it? All we have found so far are replacement gps for panels that already have one. I must admit this has me totally baffled. Thanks for any help you can give me. ???

Sure alb, adding a GPS to your acft. is very simple.

Which GPS do you like? The one in the 747 for example?

Open the panel.cfg in the 747 acft. folder. Leaving the panel.cfg of the 747 up, open up the panel.cfg of the acft. you want to install the GPS to.

You will see this first in the 747 panel.cfg:

[Window Titles]
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=Radio Stack
Window02=GPS
Window03=Throttle Quadrant
Window04=Overhead Panel

See the Window02=GPS............Copy that and paste it into the other panel.cfg. at the bottom of the Windows listed in [Windows Titles] You will have to number it in sequence. IF the last Window in the cfg you are adding the GPS to is say..........04, then you would number your new GPS entry to 05.

Now, scroll down in the 747 panel.cfg to the Window02 entries. You will see something like this:

[Window02]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=456,378
window_size_ratio=1.00
position=8
visible=0
ident=GPS_PANEL
window_size= 0.280, 0.300
window_pos= 0.720, 0.340

gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500,  0,0

Copy this whole entry and paste it into the panel.cfg you are adding the GPS to. MUST be put into the correct sequencial order. It must also be numbered the same as the number of the GPS entry up in the [Windows Titles] section.

Then close it all down, saving the new one and that will do you.

Good luck and have fun.

...then just to complicate things a little   ;D  you would probably want to add an on/off  toggle for the GPS and maybe a GPS/NAV switch too for auto pilot use.......open the panel.cfg in say the c172 and copy and paste  the two entries ...gauge29=SimIcons!GPS Icon, 927, 366     and  gauge16=Cessna!Nav GPS Switch, 343, 364   to YOUR aircraft  panel cfg gauges list renumbering them as appropriate...they won't maybe appear in the position you want them but you will have to fiddle with the pair of numbers (positions on the display) to get them where you want them.......fiddly but fun.....commoner ;D

BTW...back up your panel.cfg file before messing around.

.....and finally if you can't do this stuff...post the actual aircraft and where you downloaded from and some body or I will sort it for you....good luck.....commoner ;)

Thanks. will follow the instuction. It does sound very simple. Just one question if the GPS I copy  is say window 02 but the new one is window 06 does window 02 have to be changed to 06 in the copy? I think thats how I read this. Thanks again. :)

Yes, thats correct, alb.

The [Window0x] header of the section you copy in, must match the corresponding entry under the [Window Title] section. (In proper sequence as noted)

Thx wji, commoner and dave3cu for your input.

I would have followed up on this post, like I usually do to see if poster has any more ?s..............but...........wife and I were at Home Depot buying a new fridge and stove. Waiting for her to make up her mind was, well, tedious at best. She's so funny!  ::)

Always a great bunch of people here, with the occasional BLIP!

If you use a gps to fly from one point to another, you're wrong ;D

I meant cheating.... :P

I think I've been doing almost all of my flying without  a gps for the last year or so. It's so much more fun navigating with a map, compass, and nav radios acrossed the country 8) ;)
