Missing Landing Gears

??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Got a couple of questions:

1.   I downloaded an OV10 (Warthog) and a Sukhoi 27. Both  showed with its llanding gears missing while sitting on the runway at bootup? Did I miss anythingduring the download?

2.   What would cause the elevators to flutter uncontrolably at high speeds which causes my joystick to shake and rattle? This only happens on certain aircraft and not necearrily a specific type. It happens on jets or prop airplanes. I have np problems of similar nature on most of my other aircraft.

Bubblehead,

The missing landing gear phenomona is a clear symptom of a model that was designed for a version of flight sim before fs2004.  Not much you can do about it.

As to the control flutter.... sometimes that too is the same issue.  It also can be caused by an aircraft with a missing or corrupt force feedback section in the aircraft.cfg file.  That one is fixable.

Foy your landing gears to show try this:

Open your FS9 cfg. file. Scroll down until [FrameCallNoWarn ] can be seen.
Your plane may be listed underneath similar to this example:

[FrameCallNoWarn]
OV10=0
Sukoi 27=0

Change the 0 to a 1 and save the change. Your changes will look like this:

[FrameCallNoWarn]
OV10=1
Sukoi 27=1

Your gears should now show after FS9 is started. The props for the OV10 may not show.

If these aircraft are not fully compatible with FS9 you should get a warning message about incompatible software when first selecting them from the menu. Clicking the No option will do the same thing as the fs9.cfg tweak wdavis mentioned. You only need to do the tweak if you clicked the Yes option. Either method should fix the landing gear animation but other animated parts might not display or function properly. The best way is to find a proper FS9 version of the aircraft if possible.

There is an FS9 version of the OV-10 'Bronco', but its panel is pretty much useless, so youll have to download one for it from the panels section here.

;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Thanks for the advice.
Kevin:  If you mean where I downloaded the aircraft, it was from Simviation just a few days ago. They may have been older files.

By the way gents, how do you get to the various files such as cfg, bmp, jpg, etc. to make changes. I suppose that these are files from the game and not the OS.

Bubblehead,

Oops... sorry.  I assumed that was already done.  See what that classic "assume" does with "u" and "me".   ;)

Thanks for setting that straight guys.

CFG files can be opened in Notepad for editing. BMP & JPG are image formats & can be opened in a graphics editor. If you double-click on the file icon it should open in the associated program which will probably be M$ Paint unless you installed a different one. In the case of BMP textures you might need to use DXTBmp to convert them from an extended format for editing.
