747 Fuel Consumption

I suspect the fuel flow rates of the standard 747 are screwed up.  I fully loaded the 747 with fuel and removed all other weight save for 2 pilots.  Took off from Brazil, flew at 38,000ft, 0.80 mach, followed the equator east, all the way around the world, and landed at the same airport with about 3000 lbs of fuel left.

If this was accurate, wouldn't someone have just added an auxiliary fuel tank and made an unrefueled around the world trip?  Why wait for Rutan to design 2 special planes to do this?

If you're talking about the default 747... well, it's hardly a secret that the default planes are hardly the top under the "As Real As It Gets" voice.

On the net you can find better flight dynamics to use (and I believe corrected fuel consumption, though I'm not going to swear on it) if you insist in using Micro$oft's planes. I remember having been on a french site where there was a download about this, sadly I don't remember where this site was, having left behind the default planes long ago and still keeping them on the HD only for AI use.

Really, with a so wide choice of freeware and/or payware add-ons around, why still use the defaults? Download a POSKY or Meljet 747 and step in a better simulated jumbo environment. :)

I have to agree with ashaman here most of the default aircraft are not very acurate when it comes to fuel loads and burn. I use either the POSKY or the IFDG aircraft they are a lot closer to the real thing. But you have to be carefull some downloads are so far off that it is not even funny, I wish I had a dime for every plane that I have sent to the grave yard due to inacurate weights and fuel burn some of them are so far off the plane hardly flys at all.
Granted some of them or worth the time and trouble to edit them to a more realistic value but for the most part I do not even bother. 8)

i get alot of air craft that look great but there too heavy to fly so i just to a little editing and it works out. but for fuel consumpshon just put in less fuel and just pretend  ;D
