callsign problems!

hey
whenever I fly and the ATC adresses me I get
"667 heavy , decend and mantain FL120 expect ils runways 28L" That is fine. But I dont like with 667 heavy so I go into
aircraft then try and change the callsign. Then when I click
on the list, the list dosnt come up so I have no call sign.
Gets annoying. I would like "JapanAirlines flight 277heavy , decend and mantain FL120 expect ils runways 28L"
Is there a way to fix this?????????????????????????????????

bye
btw i might not reply for a while because its really late where I am!

Hi there

If you edit aircraft.cfg and change atc_airline to JAPAN AIR you will get what you want, but you will probably have to either fly IFR or always have a flight number

What if that line already exists and you still have the problem?

Then the callsign doesn't exist in the simulator. For example, most of my planes have AMERICAN as their callsign. If I put AMERICAN AIRLINES, it flips back to 53, climb and maintain...etc. No callsign. There is a download in the FS2004 section that will modify your airlines.cfg file to contain many of the real-world airlines FS supports.

Okay...

I have searched for a file in FS9 with that name and cant find it. What is the name of the editor you found?

Theres an ATC Callsign download here:   http://www.simviation.com/fs2002misc1.htm

There may be a few 2004 recognized callsigns missing (Southwest is one).

Contains a new 'airlines.cfg' file that will allow you pick from the 'callsign' drop down list.  Also a .doc file that shows airlines and their corresponding callsign.

Cheers,
Dave

That's because the recognised call-sign is American, not American Airlines. The ones that are available in that area are

AMER AIR
AMERICAN
AMERICAN CHECK
AMERICAN FALCON
AMERICAN PACIFIC
AMERICANA
AMERIJET
AMERISTAR

It's no secret, there's a file in the main AIRCRAFT folder called airlines.cfg. It contains all of the callsigns the sim recognises.

But you can add your own 'specials', both airlines and airports by using EditVoicePack. And when you download and install the program you have the option to download all of the 'specials' that everyone else has uploaded to their server. There isn't much that you can't get now. For example, I made a fictiional STOLport called Brentwood and used Editvoicepack so ATC says its name in transmissions.

Try it. It's a lot of fun

Rollerball I see you have been around the block a lot! I need to pick you ears.

This EditVoicePack is it freeware or do you have to buy it. If so, where at?

You know what I have really been dying to hear the ATC say... Ghostrider 101 you are clear to land on runway 1... call the ball!

For when I am flying a Tomcat on a carrier deck!

Back to the subject matter  :-[ sorry!  :)

I got that and looks good, but in the readme for it it sais

If you cant find it dont worry.

I didnt have it either. I extracted the file into my aircraft folder and Bingo.....things started working again. Now all I have to do is add my "off the wall" airlines. like Mom and Pop Air, and I will be all set.

Thanks all for your help again.

That's because the recognised call-sign is American, not American Airlines.

Did you completely miss what I said? I have been flying for a while, I know the callsign is American. Only use it ever day or so. I was attempting to explain that's why it wouldn't work. ::)

and dave3cu, Southwest isn't a recognized airline as far as the sim is concerned. It only knows Southwest because it can be a runway direction. Stupid sim...

???

Whooaaah...easy there. Little bit more roughage needed in the diet perhaps.

All just more info for the questioner so they know why something doen't work rather than it just doesn't. Of course someone using it every day knows what is the right callsign - never said anything different  ::)
