No, it just lets you move your aircraft around as you wish. It's useful for getting a glider to altitude.
Key commands can be found on the kneeboard, a few basic ones are:
F1 = descend fast
F2 = stop descent/ascent
F3= up slow
F4 = up fast
There's a 'down slow' but I don't know what it is...maybe 'A'.
As for forward and such, just use the joysick as if driving a car, rudder pivots the plane.

You also have
"F5"= Roll Fast (really fast)
"Q"= Up Slow (Longer you hold the faster it goes"
"A"= Down Slow (Same as above)
Arrow Keys= Move on the horizontal (L,R,Back,Forwards)
Number Pad (Num Lock off)
Numpad "7"= Roll left.
Numpad "9"= Roll right
Numpad "1"= Yaw left
Numpad "3"= Yaw Right
Numpad "5"= Stop all movement
There are more but I forget them at the moment.

When flying open your Kneeboard, press the "A" on the right side, scroll down to the bottom of the list and you will find all commands for Slew mode. You can use Slew mode for positioning your aircraft in any way you want. For taking screenshots for example.
