Flicker During Boot Up

I just upgraded my video card from Nvidia GForce FX5600 to an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. My CPU is an AMD Athlon 2600+,  333 MHz FSB, 1 Gig RAM.  Everything went well with the exception of the following: Now everytime I try to play FS2004 my monitor flickers during bootup of the game. For example, during the Create a Flight process, the picture will go off and on several times untill  I click Fly Now. Then everything goes well until I shut down the program after which  the monitor go off and on a few times and then shut down. The problem does not happen during the actual game itself. NOTE:  This does not happen when I play any other  games such as FS2002, CFS1, CFS3, and a couple of Casino Slot games. Nor does it happen during any other operation of the PC except when I play FS2004. Any suggestion how I can resolve this problem is appreciated.  Is there any upgrade associated with FS2004 which I did not know about?  Also any suggestion on the best resolution and frame rates setting now that I have the new more powerful video card?

I would first run dxdiag to make sure that Directx recognizes your card. I have heard of something like this happening before and the problem was directx was still looking for the old card. You might have to reinstall directx. If this does not solve the problem than I have no other ideas. 8)

Bubblehead,

Ah Hah....... the dreaded "ATI Flicker".  It's Baaaaaaaaacccccckkkkkkk!   ;)

If you look at some of the earliest pages in this forum you'll see a TON of posts on this issue.  It plagued us ATI users for months until ATI fixed it after MANY tries.  It was onl;y happening with fs2004.  It relates to the earlier drivers for the ATI cards.

Go to the ATI website and get the new drivers and it'll be solved.

best,

Mine does the same thing, it is a Geforce FX6800GT, def. not an "ATI Flicker".
AMD Athlon 64 3700+
GeForce FX5200 256Mb
1GB DDR400 DC
Seagate 500Gb SATA-300 HDD
Windows XP Professional X64 Edition

That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they
