Actually, there are different ways of doing it. I am no expert as the effects issues are still blurry to me. I toy with others xml gauges, don't change them, just see what they control and there timings and experiment with other fx.

Some FX are handled by XML gauges, others by entries in the .cfg file ( either in the LIGHTS or in the SMOKE sections)

On my Viper that I have toyed with, I have activated my wingtip contrail in the SMOKE section of the acft.cfg

Positioning the wingtip contrails is a burger. ANy FX on an acft. really.

What B-58 is it? I have a Hustler that I might toy with. Been playing around with the effects for my favorite Tomcat right now.

OK, I've studied the Readme for Nick's Jet Smoke and I'm learning quite a bit.  Now to actually apply what I've learned. Especially important was learning how to position the smoke trails on the aircraft engines. I have some excellent wingtip contrails from a T-38 I'll try to adapt to the Hustler.

What I've actually been using was not Nick's Jet Smoke at all, but an application that controls the temperature at which a high altitude contrail appears, hence the -27C default setting.

Nick's Readme is quite thorough. I plan to add smoke to my B-58 created with & textured by J. R. Lucariny.  I got it here on the Simviation site.  It's a great looking model but I'm not crazy about the panel or the afterburner effects. I plan to modify both which will make the aircraft even more fun.
