Just asking  a small silly little question but Trying to be realistic  What is the point in which you turn on and turn off landing light.

Normally I turn on my landing light just prior to landing, and I turn it off as soon as I exit to the taxiway and turn on my taxi lights instead :)

In reality. You turn on your Landing Lights as soon as you receieve takeoff clearance and enter the runway, as you turn on your strobes. You turn them off as you climb through 10,000 feet or level off below that. You turn them back on descending through 10,000 feet and leave them on until you exit the runway. ;)

Saratoga,

Thanks for the real life explaintion. But in the FS I find that the lights are more of a distraction than a help.

In my case at least the lights just seem to be too bright, making it hard to see the lines on the road.

HA I'm glad someone else feels that way when I turn on the landing lights I can hardly see the runway anymore.  Fs sky helped alot choosing a set thats a bit dimmer.

Well that would be a realistic effect. Lights on concrete and on other lights tends to dim them out, creating that effect. It's not unreal it's actually quite the opposite.

If you want it to be "as real as it gets" then leave them at full power, that's how it's supposed to be. ::)

10,000 feet is the real life rule.  But the FS landing lights are often too bright for taxiing, depending which aeroplane you're using.

If you call up the electrical switchboard you'll usually find a button for 'taxiing lights'.  Use them instead of the landing lights for taxiing - then switch over for takeoff and landing.

I agree with sonic ;D
you cant even see the runway when you've got them on. Esspecially at night.
the strange thing is once the aircraft is off the ground you can see perfectly.
???

strange

There are a number of fixes for that (I like the Xenon ones myself)...

I thought you only turn them on as you land...do all planes have them on while flying under 10,000...even if you have no  plans to go above 10,000?

*sigh* this is why we have TAXI lights people  ::)

For planes that don't have a taxi light switch-hit "L" to turn all the lights on.  The put the LANDING LIGHTS switch into the OFF position.  Voila!  Your taxi lights are on, even though there's no switch for them.
