Smoke effect when landing

Hello all, I'm brand new to the forum and I love FS 9.

???  When I first installed it, I got the smoke effect from the tires when landing.  I did play around with the settings a bit, and now I dont get the smoke.  The smoke is now a pixelated mass where the smoke used to be.  I'm sure its a setting issue.  I don't exactly have the best video card but it suffices.  Are there default settings in FS9 to get the best all around performance?

Sound like your smoke_effect files are toast try d/l some addon smoke effects from the usual sites (or find the originals on your MS CDs) .

My usual answer, do a complete re-install of fs9. Will almost surely work, but there are less drastic measures which I'm sure sime of the guys around here would be pleased to help you out with.

"My usual answer, do a complete re-install of fs9."

;D That's what I did.  It cleared up the landing smoke effect problem and a few other issues too, thanks.

I'm now learning how to use the autopilot and trying to become more knowledgable on the instruments in flying from point A to point B.

P.S. glad you got your mojo workin' . . . now you can go to work on the other smoke effects (reinstall of FS9 not required)

OK, I gotta get that smoke effect for the B-58

Being the newbie here, where can I find this effect and others, like wingtip contrails, or can my existing ones for some aircraft be modified to work with other aircraft?

Thanks in advance.

There are many effects downloads available here. ShopFX, Nick's Jet Smoke/Turbo Prop Smoke and Turbo Prop wash. lots of others too.

Any effect you have can be placed on another acft. But that requires some knowlege of how different effects work, knowing what files need to be edited and how to edit them.

I have added wingtip contrails, engine exhaust, my favorite afterburner to many of my acft. Fighters mostly.

I like Nick's Jet Smoke for the default FS9 acft. This download Nick has set up to install it automatically to the stock Big Birds of FS9. I would start here. Look at how those are set up, the edits that were made to get it all to work. You are going to have to learn the stuff so you can do it yourself. But it's worth it.

Take Kirk Olsen's EXCELLENT F16 Viper. Finally settled on Jan Rosenberg's great after burner effects. Added my own wingtip contrails, engine exhaust (which I am thinking of lightening up a bit). Added a few things to my Viper panel and minipanel and I am ready to go.

Am thinking of doing some more experiments with various XML gauge timings and effects.
