installation

Had to re-install FS9 due to a virus on my computer and my dad having to wipe the HD.  Anyway when re-installing FS, on the 4th disk an error message came up on the installation screen sayin 'tokyo.cab file corrupt' anyway it came up with the option of retry of ignore, we tried retrying but it crashed the computer.  So we started again and the same message appeared and we ignored it, the installation carried on and everything seemed to be fine.  But now sometimes whilst in FS it will suddenly crash.  I think this problem is probably due to my CD4 being a bit scratched from all it's use.  What can I do about this???
Any help is really appreciated.

If the install carries on with no other error messages I'm not sure if manually extracting that CAB file would fix it. I think it's worth a try. If it's scratched you could try a proprietary CD maintenance kit to rescue the CD. The other option is to contact M$ & explain the problem. When you succeed in installing it I suggest you get the No-CD patch. That will save any further damage.

I never understood how or why people treat their CDs badly enough to damage them. :P ;)

well i'm thinkin extracting the .cab file won't work, because you need to know where the files go. most people wouldn't know that.

but on the other hand, it might do the trick, if done properly.

i always think on both sides of the problem

Another thought. Extracting those CAB files during install uses a lot of resources. If the CD is not badly damaged this could cause the error message. Make sure you disable any anti-virus applications & try again.
