Postby Fox_Molder » Tue Mar 01, 2005 5:36 pm

The plane I am working on was 2 feet below ground so i used

[contact_points]
point.0=1.000000,6.250000,0.000000,-3.570000,1574.803150,0.000000,0.504270,33.480000,0.191284,2.500000,0.705336,5.000000,5.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000
point.1=1.000000,-1.916667,-2.333333,-3.570000,1574.803150,1.000000,0.504270,0.000000,0.255230,2.500000,0.700943,5.000000,5.000000,2.000000,0.000000,0.000000

on all 3 point but now the plane load like poping of the ground it site well but goes boing when first loaded.

Hi Fox. Open Aircraft.cfg of any default aircraft for a key to the [contact_points] entries.

Next time you select the aircraft hit the pause key while it's loading. This will show you the static_cg_height= position. This entry will probably need tweaking to suit your modified gear entries. You can do the same thing in Slew mode (Y key).

Heya Fox

It's okay for the aircraft to be "bouncing" into the air and settling when you first load it.  As long as it doesn't "bounce around" like a big "SuperBall" and crash it's OK.  During my FS 2000 days I actually downloaded a Harrier Jump Jet that would appear on the tarmac with all four landing gear underground when you selected it.  It would then "hop" about 200 ft. into the air (even with the engines off) and would then bounce around about 4 or 5 times before rolling over on its back and crashing!  I guess that the author wanted it to live up to its "Jump Jet" nickname!

Myself, I like to make a backup copy of an Aircraft.cfg file then edit it to "clean it up".  One of the things that I do is to put the contact points numbers in even rows and remove all of the excess zeros after the decimal point.  It's a lot of work but this makes it easier to locate a number if you need to adjust a contact point parameter.

Good work!!

I used to specialise in adjusting these entries. It's about the only thing I ever understood about FS flight dynamics. In FS9 the aircraft might settle on the supension when it first loads but if it's adjusted correctly it shouldn't drop or bounce. This is usually due to that static_cg_height= not corresponding with the gear height. This was quite common in the old days of FS98/2000 & I've seen some horrors in my time. It's not such a problem these days as the authors seem more aware of how to adjust it.

That was it It, I simply add 1 to the value that was there and voila. no bing boom.
thanks now it site on well and no more bouncing.

one last thing
Is there a way to redude the wave effect on Floats when static it goes up and down like on 2 feet wave.

this thing is getting fine tune like a piano hehehe

Glad that fixed it. I suspect you need to tweak entries 8, 9 or 10 to fix the other problem. It's a long time since I messed around with this stuff & I've forgotten most of it now. When in doubt I always refer to a similar default aircraft, if there is one. This can vary so much depending on the size/weight of the aircraft & the position of those gear/float points.
