sorry, i'm trying to save upall the questions so that i can ask a lot of questions all at once.  thanks for the patience that has been extended in answering my newbie questions...

1)  When landing....what does it mean when the ATC says "squak" this...or that.  (I have sat through the training, but i was hoping someone would have the patience to break it down for me...please??)

2)  Also, when landing....when the ATC says Left runway...do they mean, my left, their left...whos left??

3)  lastly...for now...can i run FS2004 without the disc in the drive?? instructions please??

I have to say that i am totally addicted to this flight thing...i just found a site where i can listen to live ATC...cool!

Hi there ;D
I'll answer the question as best I can.  If I'm wrong I'm sure someone else will provide you with the correct answer.

1) In your plane you have a transponder which sends a signal to the control tower so ATC can see where you are on the radar screen.  So that ATC can see your indivdual details (altitiude etc.) you must enter a unique code provided by ATC, into your transponder.  This code is the squawk code.  So if ATC says "squawk 7120" then you will enter 7120 into the transponder.

2) I don't know if you mean enter lefttraffic RNY xx or cleared to land xxLeft so I'll explain them both.  The side of the pattern is seen from the threshold (front of the runway).

(sorry about the c**p picture hope it's clear :-/)
And when you have two runways side by side (for example RNY 2) the one on the right is 2R (R for right) and the one on the left is 2L.

3) if your search around the forums, you should be able to find an answer to that question.  You download a "crack" (I think they call it) from somewhere.

Hope I've answered your questions clearly (you can tell I'm not a teacher ;D)
Regards.........Chris 8)

it was clearly a mistake, I didn't think it necessary to send yet another post explaining that I had computer problems...

Chris, thanks for the help.

As I said, no worries...I just didn't want to bother people to tell them that I my computer froze while sending.  As always, I appreciate the help.

When setting in the aircraft your left or your right :) ATC will always refer to this as you are setting in the aircraft.
And when you are flying ATC may tell you to enter a Left down wind or a right down wind, when you are flying the runway will be on your left for a left down wind or the runway will be on your right for a right down wind. ;D

Or another way to think of Left or Right patterns is that this is the way you will turn. If you enter Left Downwind then you will turn left onto Base and left again for final approach. Same thing with a right downwind, ie. right onto base and right again onto final.

Actually that would be Left traffic, wouldn't it? (Making left turns)
