You normally will encounter the first case immediately after takeoff. The procedure is simple. After tuning and identifying the station (Click center-portion of radio face), rotate the OBS until the left-right needle is centered and the TO-FROM flag shows TO. The number that now appears under the OBS index is your course to the station (inbound). It will always be the reciprocal of the radial you are on.

Now turn to and fly that heading, applying drift correction as necessary to keep the needle centered, and that's all there is to it.

Holy crap! would it have been so hard to say that in the FS9 lessons?! that was the one thing I didnt understand about VORs. I didnt know it told what heading to fly.

It doesn't tell you the heading, however the CDI will indicate which course you have selected and if you're tracking the selected course (Deviation needle centered)

Tracking a course and flying a heading are two different things  :)

I think the nav tutorial also mentions this self-imagery:

Think of each vor station as the hub of a massive unmoving bicycle wheel with spokes which stretch out at least 40 miles. All the VOR instrument does is tell you when you're close to one of the spokes(you set by OBI) you're trying to follow inward(to) or outward(from)

Ok :)Find the Freg of the VOR and dial it into your Nav side, then turn CDI vor knob, get a TO, center the CDI needle  ,turn the aircraft to match the number at the top of   the vor this will fly you to the vor make sure you see a TO in the window of the VOR when the aircraft flys over the vor it will change to a FR 8)  You know trying to understand how vor works is like trying to understand a women ;D

Did I say that no :Dlolol  Use GPS
