The planes you mention are more than likely AI or traffic planes. As a rule of thumb these are not designed to be flown. But if you really wanted to you need to add a panel to them. But I think you would not like the end result the flight dynamics of most AI aircraft are not the best out there since they were made specifically for AI and not intened to be flown.
I would recomend that you just for get they are there.
Of course the reverse is also true most flyable planes do not make good AI planes because of the frame rates they use.

LOL, I just broke a K a few days ago... the scary thing is I think I had like 94 in September

:-/
How? You help, bother, and annoy A LOT of people in a relatively short amount of time, that should get you there. You think 1,000 is a lot wait until you see Ozzy's grotesquely, freakishly large 15,000. AHHHH!

...LOL!

Jeff

And BTW...Guess you haven't seen Ozzy...he runs through 3 key boards a week

You think 994 is crazy, I've got over 2300 and I've only been here since October!

Whenever there's a spot to post, go for it...just make sure its relevant...
Let's see, I've got 74 and I believe I joined less than two weeks ago...
However, I've been browsing simviation before they even added forums....

...the "make sure it's relevant" is good advice. Too many guys will make posts containing simply lol. or maybe just a ;D icon ....just because something amuses them or just post Sh*t if something doesn't. These are all counted as POSTS, so 10 good posts which are helpful to others or which ask an interesting question are worth a thousand of the former sort.....IMHO....commoner

BTW
Unlike in FS2002, the AI planes are perfectly flyable in FS2004 with good handling characteristics. The Dash 8 in particular is good and can even now be set up with autothrottle whereas in 2002 it was useless.
Just paste in a panel and use Aired.exe (available here at SimV) to change the aircraft type in the air file from 2 to 0. Then away you go.
The other thing is that they cocked up the landing gear limiting speed in the Dash 8. In the cfg file, you'll need to change the 100s shown in red below to something more realistic - say 160 - otherwise you can't lower the gear until about the same time as you hit the deck ::)
[contact_points]
point.0 = 1, -5.0, 0.00, -7.70, 1500, 0, 1.617, 25.0, 0.500, 2.5, 0.9, 5.0, 6.0, 0, 100, 250
point.1 = 1, -29.0, -12.99, -7.90, 3000, 1, 0.633, 0.0, 0.675, 2.5, 0.8, 6.0, 7.0, 2, 100, 250
point.2 = 1, -29.0, 12.99, -7.90, 3000, 2, 0.633, 0.0, 0.675, 2.5, 0.8, 6.0, 7.0, 3, 100, 250

Thanks for the location of gear speeds in the contact points setup. I assume the first three settings are locations relative to the aircraft. What are the rest for?
I ask because I have a DC-10 that sits on the tarmac buried up to its hubs.

Hiya - you're welcome
The best thing to do is open the aircraft.cfg file for the default 737-400. You'll see that they've included all the reference info you need. The number to edit is the 4th one for each of the first three points (nosewheel and the 2 main gear wheels) which is the vertical distance of the contact point from the plane's reference datum position in feet. Make the numbers bigger to raise the aircraft. No need to stop and restart the sim - go to spot view, edit the cfg file, select another aircraft and then reselect the one you're editing. You should see it moving upwards..... as if by magic

thanks for the info Rollerball. I got Ultimae Traffic with its loads of PAI textured AI airliner planes(something like 200 planes among 20 types) and I'd been wanting to fly the planes I see but not knowing how to do it!
