Scenic airports!

Postby Ben_M_K » Mon Jan 31, 2005 3:41 pm

Hey there everyone! Okay, I know threads like this have been made before, but I want this one to stay, maybe even a mod will make it a sticky. ;)

Heres how it will go: I will have a list of airports that are good for senic flights, and you guys can continue to add more. IMHO, half of the fun in FS is flying around a senic area, and I'm always trying to find new ones. Thats why I want this thread to grow big and hopefuly we will all find new airports to fly at. :)

USA
Ranger Creek; Greenwater, Washington (21W)
Telluride Regional; Telluride, Colorado (KTEX)
Taos, New Mexico (KSKS)
Bremerton National, WA (KPWT)
Jakson Hole (KJAC)
Hood River (4S2)
Sanderson Field (KSHN)
Randle Kiona Airpark (WN55)
Bend Municipal (S07)

I hope thats a good start and I will add any more you guys say is good.

-Ben

Are you wanting default or add on airports. Lots of fantastic add ons out there. Most notably ZSHC (Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport) in China. That one's a work of art. Dynamic scenery with moving traffic. Trees blowing in the breeze and a terminal building that you can actually walk around inside and believe it's a terminal. Another great add on airport is Bremerton Nat. not far from Seattle. It has textures so clear that you can read the writing on the dry erase board inside the hangar and the prices on the Coca Cola machine.

I do a lot of flying around Albuquerque (KABQ) and Taos, NM (KSKX).  A really fun flight is Albuquerque to Denver, I fly that one at least once a week.  Another of my favorites is Jackson Hole (KJAC), it's hard to beat the Tetons for scenery...

How about Hood River (4S2)?  There's a river winding through a mountain range, and a  couple small towns in the hills nearby.

man, i miss living in Albuquerque, i was up on the NE side of ABQ, but now i'm back here in Chi-town

Airports in my area, still looking for free or payware scenery

Palwaukee - KPWK
Schaumburg - 06C
O'Hare - KORD
Midway - KMDW
DuPage - KDPA

yeah, denver to Albuquerque is a fun flight. i remember actually flying in a 727 from denver to abq. before united started direct flights from ord to abq.

chicago has beautiful scnenry, if you like city looks. Hood River is very nice, and has a lot of freeware addons. i do a lot of chopper touring there.

i want my 727!!! ;D

Hi jco....just tried the AlB. to Denver trip....really enjoyed it too just a long slow ride in my fav. c172..looks like they got the ILS set up spot on..at least on rwy34..commoner ;)

Did you fly down the east or west side of the mountains from Denver?  I like flying due north out of ABQ, and then coming in to Denver from the west.  One of these days somebody will do an addon for ABQ, I hope  ;)

I like that flight because it's not too long, and there's a variety of scenery to look at.  Most of all, I do a lot of hiking there in the summer, and skiing in the winter, so it's fun to fly around an area I'm so familiar with.  I've even climbed a few of the mountains around there, most recently Wheeler Peak near Taos (highest pt in NM).  ;D

Try Jackson Hole, WY to Glacier NP in Montana, that's a pretty good one too...

The KPWT Bremerton National scenery is stunningly accurate. I've been there and have enjoyed the cuisine of the Airport Diner and the accuracy of KPWT's enhancement amazes me.

Now, if only they'd come out with an add-on simulating the races held on the closed runway. ;) It's now used as a Washington State Patrol training track and as the Bremerton National Raceway.

My most favorite airports to take off from to are KSHN Sanderson Field. I often use this for scenic flights up the Hood Canal or over the Olympic Mountain range. On some occassions, I'll take off from here and fly to Mt. Rainier or Mt. St. Helens.

I also take off from the Randle Kiona Airpark(WN55). Good scenery here and if you're high enough you can see Mts Rainier, St. Helens and Mt. Adams.

S07 Bend Municipal. I often fly to the Three Sisters/Mt. Bachelor area, and often down to Crater Lake using this airport.

...mmm....jco...I just got a "red line" on the GPS and (more or less) followed that.....dodging around or over the highest bits as they happened along...lol...not the most precise way to do it but the "real weather" gave me quite a bit of cloud so it was real fun....maybe I'll do it your way sometime...commoner. ;D

Looking good guys! 8)
One thing though is I only really want default airports, not add-ons or payware, and I want them to be scenic. Not like ABQ or Denver or any other international airport.

Lets see some from other contries!! :) :)

Agreed.  Flying around in northern New Mexico/southern Colorado is rather scenic.
Go to AVSIM and do a search for kabq2004.zip
That's a nice photorealistic afcad of KABQ.  I am not a big fan of photorealistic, so I used the afcad file as a base to build my own KABQ and surrounding airports.  I fly in that area a lot.  I am currently fixing and adding to airports and scenery around there all the time.  Send me a PM if you want me to give you what I have so far.
