Global Terrain Mesh Scenery

I have spent a lot of time downloading Global Terrain Mesh Scenery for fs 2004. I have followed both the read me file i.e. create folder within add-on scenery, create sub folder called scenery and place bgl files with same leader name eg 'AF' open fs2004 and add scenery to library and restarted program. Scenery looks no different to default for the UK region (which I have downloaded). Have also tried according to some posts here creating separate folders for each bgl and a scenery folder within each and placed bgl file into this. Done this with all UK, deleted previous UK addon and added new setup. Restarted and still no difference. I have mesh files from a different source installed and they work ok with exeption to some lakes and runways being elevated so I know how to install. I have deleted these UK meshes from library when adding Global Terrain but still nothing.
Does this definately work? as Im not going to download 9GB of meshes and have no difference to the default
Thanks in advance
Chris

For starters where are your settings at? If you have a low end system and are unable to set your scenery settings high enough than you might not notice any differance. You also have to rember that mesh scenery works with the default scenery but only in limited areas.
So you have to make sure the place you are at is within that area. The readme file that came with the mesh should tell you what area it covers. The only other problem you might have is the order the scenery is loaded in. By default new scenery goes on the top of the list and has a higher priorty so you might have to move it to the bottom of the list but the readme file should tell you that. If you continue to have problems than try contacting the author of the mesh. he should be able to help you with it.

Im refering to the Global Terrain Mesh which can be downloaded from this website
http://www.simviation.com/fsdterrainsrtm.htmI have a Nvidea Geforce FX5200 card (128mb) and can max all effects sliders no problem subject to low frame rates. On more normal setup I have meshes for the whole of Europe including UK at either 70m and 38m grids. Like I said the mesh I have for the UK gives pretty accurate definition to some mountain ranges that I live near but the default ms mesh is pretty flat and the Global meshes downloaded from this site dont cange the appearance of elevation from the default scenery. I have all add on meshs at the top of the list. I can install meshes ok and have installed a lot of them with no problems and have noticed an improvement but this 'batch' has no effect and I think it may be down to the differences between installation instructions with the official readme stating onething and members posts on this site

In a relatively flat area the add on mesh isn't going to show as much anyway. Remember that the grid size of the mesh is the distance between measurement in taking the sample. So if you have 78m mesh and it's in an area where there aren't many features greater than 78m (which is pretty big actually) then you will still see a flat terrain. In mountainous areas however the difference between add on mesh and the default is tremendous.
To test your mesh you need to find someplace where the terrain is steep enough to show and then slew to a certain spot and take a screen shot the save the flight while the airplane is exactly where you took the screen shot from. Now turn off the mesh in the Scenery Library and run the same flight you just saved and take another screen shot. Is there any difference now? If so then your mesh is working. If not then something isn't installed right or something is wrong with the mesh file.

This sounds odd.
Do you have the whole mesh installed or just that specific region ?
If it

I have installed the 4 bgls for the UK eg EB90, EC12, EC13 and EC35 (as shown on Cover Map) according to the readme file and also tried installing by putting each bgl file into individual folders with the file in a 'scenery' sub folder and added them to the add-on scenery in fs2004. I slewed to the Mournes in Northern Ireland and it just appears as a bump (same as default scenery) and also Snowdonia in Wales and both sceneries as EXACTLY as per default.
I used Rapidshot to capture screens of same view from default and Global meshes and there was no difference.
I have another mesh for UK which works ok and has mountains more defined (I have unticked it when testing these new meshes) but wanted meshes for majority of the world from the same source so as not to have to go hunting over internet and have compatability problems as well with overlapping areas.
Sorry about all this
Chris

Hi CJ...not at all sure what your problem is but using the method which has a folder named to your liking with the .bgl inside a scenery folder within that and those inside my Main FS9 scenery folder (I don't use the Addon scenery folder) I then added in the usual way to the scenery library..I have just downloaded EB02 which has Gibralter scenery....this was an obvious choice to test the method...here is the result. The Default Fs9 terrain has no representation of "the Rock" at all....with the SRTM..well see for yourself.....commoner

Thanks Commoner,
Are the screen captures you took from the Global Terrain Mesh from this site or a different source?
I'll maybe try a different area outside Uk to see if they work. I have meshes for Spain and Gibralta (Not Global Terrain Scenery Mesh) and it looks like your 'after' picture.
I have just tested the UK (since I know what this region should look like) prior to downloading all the files for the majority of the world. I'll try placing them into folders in the Main Scenery to see if that helps as within the addon scenery i got absolutely no difference in mountainous areas than the default scenery despite it appearing ok in the add-on list in fs2004.

..yes it's from here at SimV.....addon scenery folder or just scenery folder shouldn't really make any difference..but try it and see eh?..commoner

I don't currently have the mesh installed (recently put a new HD in, and I'm still building my sim back up)....but in the past I had a lot of it installed. It is indeed a fantastic addition to the sim. I'd definitely recommend it to ANYONE wanting improved scenery.
