sorry, i'm trying to save upall the questions so that i can ask a lot of questions all at once. thanks for the patience that has been extended in answering my newbie questions...
1) When landing....what does it mean when the ATC says "squak" this...or that. (I have sat through the training, but i was hoping someone would have the patience to break it down for me...please??)
2) Also, when landing....when the ATC says Left runway...do they mean, my left, their left...whos left??
3) lastly...for now...can i run FS2004 without the disc in the drive?? instructions please??
I have to say that i am totally addicted to this flight thing...i just found a site where i can listen to live ATC...cool!

gbw, 'squawk' just means setting your identification code into the radio (what the RAF used to call 'IFF', 'Identification Friend or Foe'). It's a transponder that gives off a radar signal that allows the controller to distinguish your blip from other people's. The good news is that, on FS9, you don't have to do anything, the game sets the frequency for you - all you have to do is acknowledge the request; the controller will tell you that he/she has 'radar contact', acknowledge that, and you're done.
If the controller says, say, 'Runway 27 Left', that just means that the airport has two parallel runways running at 270 degrees. Look on the airport plan in the Map view and you'll see. The other ends of the same two runways will be Runways 9L and 9R. It's important to pick the correct one when setting the ILS frequency, of course.
About Disk 4, there's a download you can get. I have it, it works, and it doesn't seem to cause any problems. I can't remember where I got it from, but it's probably on the Simviation site (search 'FS9 no disc'). If it doesn't turn up on there, just do the same search on google.

gbwnab, if the live atc site wasn't from the link I posted in the "real aviation" forum, and you enjoy that kind of thing, check this out. Don't forget to click "view radar screen" halfway down the left margin of the page when you get there. Nice to see another addict on board

Here's the link...

Clipper, I'm assuming that you are familiar with this cool site. Can you tell me what everything stands for? The colours, what each line represents?
My wifes cousin works at Pearson in Toronto, its cool to hear her talking to the planes!!
thanks!
