Ok just wondering if when you tune to the airport in ATC does it tune the ILS as well, or do you have to do it seperatly.  I noticed that when flying the lessons the ILS approach worked fine, but when flying in create a flight the ILS didnt move when I tried to land.  I wasnt using ATC at the time so I didnt tune to the tower.
Or if I take off form a airport and fly around and land at the same runway it should be tuned to that one already. I thought.  Still new can you tell. HEHE

Although some new advanced airliners have the ILS autotuned, you still have to manually tune in the selected runway's ILS frequency in FS9  :)

Use the map under WORLD menu to find the ILS FREQ of the runway you'll use.  Then enter that number into one of the NAV radio box in your radios.

Sonic...  In the lessons the instructor tunes the radios for you, at least until you get to the instrument rating check ride.

You definitely need to tune in the ILS frequency yourself.  Airports can have more than one ILS runway so autotuning the ILS when you tune the ATC wouldn't be practical.  As posted by Trinidad, you can find the frequency by accessing the map and putting your mouse pointer over the feather for the runway you want to land on.  Also, not all runways have an ILS approach...

You can also access the map by clicking on the map icon in the 2d panel, it's the star looking one with the radio and gps and other buttons.  Of course, you have to use the 2d cockpit when you fly for this to be easy, no VC.  If you use VC, access the world menu and then click on map...

As for having your departing runway already tuned, the same applies.  When you get your IFR clearance, that's the first time you would know which runway your departure is assigned to, so autotuning wouldn't apply.  Even if you are starting your flight on the active runway, don't assume that's the runway you'll be assigned to when you request IFR clearance.  I flew last night and when I got my clearance I was on the right runway, but on the wrong end of it, so had to taxi to the other end and take off the other way.  ???

Make sure you check where you are vs. where your assigned...

Hi sonic....after you find out the ILS frequency you must tune Nav1 to that freqency...you will find there are TWO numbers for Nav 1..the RIGHT hand one can be tuned with the mouse and is the STANDBY frequency...you must then put that number into the LEFT hand side to ACTIVATE it. Do this by clicking the little double headed arrow between the numbers...<->. then click APPR on the AP and try to intercept the localiser beam to the runway....you could if you wanted put the ILS frequency of the opposite runway into the STANDBY position ready for a quick change if neccessary....ATC doesn't affect this at all whatever they say can be ignored if you so wish....commoner

There is a runway info gauge that will do the same thing. You inout the ICAO code and it will lists all the runways for that airport and show any ILS runways and frequenices needed. I have put this gauge an almost all of my air craft as you do not have to pause when checking out the info like you do if you use the map view.

it is simple to put in other aircraft

...mmm...that sounds interesting garymb... but I can't seem to see anything resembling a gauge of that sort...any chance of the file name..thanks..commoner

You can actually get all that info from the GPS module, in case you didn't feel like downloading the gauge.

And to make your life easier, once you get it tuned, the Autopilot can even fly that there ILS for you! Crazy, eh? That's a whole 'nother story and it's definetly in another post on here, just take a look around and you can see how to make the computer do the work.

Right beefhole but not like this little beaut...couldn't find the actual gauge but downloaded a panel which had it and moved it into my own planes...Gary it is real cool....even tunes the Nav 1 radio for you now isn't THAT something..thanks for that..commoner

Ok sorry tell me were to find the ILS frequency for a given airport,  I was practicing at asheville (kAVL) and looked for the ILS to tune too but could not find it I thought it was near the map screen I looked and didnt see anything there. Im pretty sure asheville has a ILS.

There are hills at 1,000 ft in Paris? I've only flown in there once, but I remember it being flat.

Sonic, you can determine whether or not an airport has an ILS by a green "feather" indication that comes off the end of the runway. The primary two ways of finding out an ILS freq is to open up the map and click on the airport. Scroll to the bottom, and the ILS freqs (if available) should be there. The other method is to use the GPS module, which is a bit more advanced.

There is also this mysterious gauge people are talking about, a program called fsnav (which I was unimpressed with, personally) and several other freeware addons. But the map view should cover it.

...mmm....yes the best way to find the ils frequency is as beefhole says IF you are using default stuff...trouble with the Map is that the airport has to to be on the map
