This is just a message to thank:
  Hagar, Commoner, Hi-D, Beefhole and MattNW for all the help and advice you guys provided reference my "non responsive FS9"... I Removed my Saved flights folder and the FS9.cfg file and reinstalled FS9 without any problems... I just had to re-input all my own display prefrences and re-assign some key commands.
  Soooo.. I was back flying around the skys of N.Ireland yesterday afternoon with a grin on my face stretching from one ear to the other... Ohhhhh... and by the way, whatever I did also cured the bizzare contrail problem I had...

Delighted if my suggestions were some help. Glad you fixed it. Have fun.

The contrails are controlled by two files in the texture folder. Be aware of any textures that might come with a download as this is how the files get changed. Just rember to never overwrite any file in fs9 unless you are 100% sure you know what it is, and never extract any file into fs with the overwrite files box checked.
These two things are the biggest cause of most problems.
