A bit of a close call?

My Sister just flew from Newark to Seattle aboard a Boeing 737-800. I followed her in real time in my own 737-800. The range for this aircraft is: Range: 2,789 miles (4,488 km). Is'nt this calling it close so far as fuel goes? I just barely made it with my fuel gauge flashing a warning. Wildie

Good one!! But really, I thought You needed more fuel by law than that plane would have had at the point of landing. I flew at 32,00'--319 Airspeed, 427 Ground. I got there at the same time as she did but with warning lights flashing.

I am sure they had enough fuel to comply with the airlaw regs.

It's no danger really. Around 2.200nm between KEWR - KSEA, so you got some ballroom there :)

What's long distance cruise for the 737, soemthing like MO.76? I'm sure they can make it just fine

The MRC is the same cruise speed as if you'd put ZERO as the cost index, for a 737-800 it's around .775
But MRC is rarely used since it requires the aircaft to be continously flown at OPT, altitude. Older autothrottle systems also had a hard time operating at MRC in the higher altitudes due to the frequent power changes needed to maintain target speed.
Simply put it's a constant angle of attack with the power being continuously reduced.
Soooo, that's where LRC comes into play, which is roughly 97% of the max. range). This translates to a speed of around m.786 (737-700) and m.794 (737-800 )
Clearer?
